'Safe'
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Oh wow, I totally disagree. Baltar spent the past year HOPING he was a Cylon because then he wouldn't have to feel guilty about all the things he's done. Yes, he rationalizes it all away, but people who don't think they've done anything wrong don't need to rationalize their behavior.

Hm. I agree with this too. Curses.
But (and I love him above all other TV royalty) his complete list of titles and honors reads: His Royal Highness The Prince Joss, Prince of Misdirect and Earl of Retcon, Duke of Dropped Threads, Baron of Changed Minds and Prince and Great Steward of Handwaving.
Cindy is still my favorite.

I win!
...neener.
Does anybody know if Life on Mars S2 will be run (eventually) on BBCA?

MICOLE! I haven't seen you (well, here -- I've seen you elsewhere) in far too long.

I think the thing about Baltar's conscience is that it's not particularly useful to him or others. The fear of feeling guilty is useful when it deters a person from making bad choices or performing bad acts. Experiencing guilt after an event is useful, when it teaches a person something about his choices that inspires positive change, and/or when it inspires the person to make amends for his wrong.
Guilt itself is only an emotion -- it's a by-product of conscience, but if it doesn't motivate any positive actions, it's one of the less useful aspects of the conscience. In fact, a person can end up acting worse because he feels so guilty, he thinks he's a lost cause (e.g. Baltar deciding/hoping he's a Cylon).
All of this is reminding me why (besides the performance) I love watching this character so much. He does fascinate, what with his brooding, soggy intensity and wondering what's going on beneath his many faces.
"brooding, soggy intensity"
That's great!!! Such a perfect description.
You know what I love about this thread? Getting confused when toast comes up (and it does) in various contexts. What happens if someone converts someone to a BSG fan on the basis of loving the Cylons? Do they get a toaster toaster?
eta: This is probably a good time to go get my coffee, huh?
