Boxed Set, Vol. III: "That Can't Be Good..."
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Yeah, Marsters was a fan-favorite because he does the audio books for The Dresden Files.
I haven't listened to any of the books, so I can't vouch how good of a job James does, but I'm personally happy with Blackthorne. He looks a little older and thinner up top than the Harry in my head, but otherwise fits him spot-on physically and his facial expressions are perfect. His delivery seems a little off, but I'm willing to chalk a lot of that up to trying to speak with an American accent.
ETA: With Marsters there'd probably be Spike-disconnect, as well. Not to mention the lack of physical simularities between Marsters and the character.
After Blackthorne was cast, but back when Bob was still going to be in the skull, and then later when he was supposed to be a skull-shaped image in Harry's fireplace, the fans were hoping that James could play Bob, since VO-work wouldn't neccessarily require him to move to Toronto. That, I think he would have done a great job with.
Yeah, James' voice is gorgeous.
Skull-in-the-fireplace would'a been stoopid. So glad they ditched that idea.
One of those sites you sent me has an excerpt of James reading one of the books, if you want to hear him. I didn't listen to much of it; I hate hearing people read aloud, and I don't really know why. I love doing it myself.
I was startled by the behind-the-scenes clip SciFi has up, interviewing Blackthorne. Whoa, accent! I didn't know him, and I didn't know he was British. heh

I actually, coincidentally, heard him reading a chapter of the 4th book today in a podcast. He does a pretty good job, I suppose. I've never done the audiobook thing, so I don't have anything to compare it to.
Oh, for those interested, theres a couple of short pieces on Jim Butcher's website, that are non-spoilery for the books, beyond a general sense.

Okay, see, nobody told me that Terrence Mann was on the Dresden Files! I would have been way more excited.
Watched the pilot last night. Was reasonably entertained. Will stick around.
Also finally got to watch Heroes last night. FLYING MAN! Honestly, just about everything they do with Hiro is a stroke of genius, including the bit where he went back to the museum to return what he'd stolen. He and Ando are just so damn cute.
[Note to world: Thomas Mann != Terrence Mann. Things make much more sense when reading comprehension is high.]
Terrence Mann was Javert in Les Mis. And is in the Chorus Line movie. And was the Beast in the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast. So...yeah. Definitely not Thomas Mann.
Edit: Oh, oh, and he was in the original cast of Assassins too.
He looks (and sounds) like Hugh Laurie's cousin in this.
Theo, yes, he does! I kept thinking, who does he remind me of? and you're right; it's Laurie.
mmm
Hey there, SGA 1013 or whatever you are. I really appreciate
you making up for being kind of boring last week by making a really good episode not only showcasing Kavan Smith, but also General Hammond *and* McKay. McKay in glasses no less! Thank you for that. Also for the lesbian joke, because I, for one, appreciated it. No doubt all the Janet/Sam shippers did too. You could practically feel the vibration of a thousand femslashers! It was funny, interesting, and surprisingly cogent political commentary. So you kind of rocked my socks off, which is so not what I expected from you, SGA, but I am delighted to be convinced.
delightfully yours,
me.
Definitely not Thomas Mann.
I think Thomas Mann is long dead, too, so I was going to be impressed if he really was on a TV show! Now the fact that the differentiator-module in my brain eventually settled on Terence Howard, rather than Terrence Mann, well, at least I got somebody alive and plausible.
In sum: IMDB is good, even for people who spend a lot of time on Broadway.
