"Runaway Bride":
wheee! That was fun. I thought Donna was believably bitchy and annoying and it totally worked to distract me from the angst of missing Rose, because Donna was so irritating, and so unlike Rose, that it was clear that she wasn't meant to stand in for her in any way. And that's not to say that I didn't like her, 'cause I did, but I was glad that the show didn't expect me to think she was awesome.
All the
arachno-whatever alien stuff was good cheesy fun, too. I kind of feel, though, that you have to be sparing with your alien robo-Santas and your killer Christmas trees; they were amusing in last year's Christmas special, but I could have done without them this year. Any bets on whether or not they'll show up in next year's special, too?
Also,
I am a total sap. I was missing Rose like crazy, but I was holding it together -- well, perhaps sniffling the tiniest bit when the Doctor was thinking about her at the wedding reception -- and then at the end when he says, "Her name was Rose," I just lost it. I blame David Tennant, with his bright eyes and the tremor in his voice, dammit. But I really liked all the moments where we see him thinking about her, even talking about her. I was surprised that so much of the episode was about the loss of Rose; I wonder how much more of that we'll get this season? It did help make the transition smoother, for me at least, but I was expecting that her name would never cross his lips again (given how he never once mentioned Sarah Jane, for example).
So, bring on Series 3!
so who's seen The Runaway Bride?
tiggy, I don't watch, but I noticed clarrie saying she thought it was
rubbish -- of the she-got-a-headache-from-the-rubbish kind of rubbish,
and I'd seen all kinds of people waiting for it to become available, and thought
oh, no, they're going to hate it. I'm glad to see that wasn't the case
.
And then I can read all the fic that's been recommended and actually understand what's going on.
Yay! I'll teach you the secret handshake. I think it involves flailing about and muttering "Oh,
t insert Winchester
!"
Ple! I have achieved TiVo hookup. I can have all the Sam and Dean I want, now. Wheee!
Yay!
Because I do not use my powers for good, I got Pete and Jilli the SPN S1 DVDs for Christmas. SPN EVERYWHERE!
I need more Sam and Dean. Perhaps tomorrow, Paul and I can watch the rest of S1. Then I can start him on S2.
I'm on episode 3 of Supernatural right now! AIFG!
Esp Dean and the little boy. And Dean telling him about his mom dying and how he know she'd want him to be brave and he thinks about it everyday. Oh Dean! It gives me the urge to hug him and make him soup. Of course he'd probably cop a feel and proposition me...not that I'd complain.
Plus Amy Acker in this episode and CKR in the other...which gave me all kinds of visuals for how RayK looks off living in Canada with Fraser and living happily ever after.

That's a large part of the appeal of Dean, isn't it?
I'm kind of appalled by how much I like the character. Like, I like him more than I like Buffy. I wasn't sure that was possible.
I'm on episode 16, "Shadow." Really loving the growing closeness between Dean and Sam. Every now and then the MoW seems mildly repetitive, but there always seems to be enough other stuff going on between the two that it takes it beyond the feeling of watching reruns.
Hell, I almost like Dean better than Spike and that is near blasphemy in my canon.

You need to Youtube this.
Seriously.
That's a large part of the appeal of Dean, isn't it?
Oddly yes. He's blatant about what he wants so you'd know what you were getting. A night (or afternoon) of hot fun and the he'd drive off into the sunset blaring Zeppelin.
