What is even happening?

Not sumi, but it's referring to the preview of next week's ep that Sci-fi put up online for a limited time right after the first show aired - about a two minute clip.
Thanks, Jen. That's what I thought, but then a couple of posts later, sumi said:
Hmmm, I can't wait to see the preview on demand. . . if it clarifies or if it goes in a COMPLETELY different direction. (Which is what last week's preview On Demand did.)
When I read that, I figured she hadn't seen it, after all. Is the On Demand preview different? I'm still so confused.

Relatedly, how long is the preview available, online? I can't find it, today and my P.C. is always off, by the time I sit down to watch BSG. I know the ad says it's a limited time, so maybe time is already up. But I could just be oblivious to it, and would like to watch it, if it's still online.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I got it wrong, it's actually RIO, for Radar Intecept Officer. Goose was Maverick's RIO, for example. They watch the radar, alert the pilot where the enemy ships are, what direction they're coming from, how many. RIO's don't have weapons. Pilots, I'm told by the militarily-informed people in my house, fly the plane and shoot. RIOs do everything else: eyes, communications, monitoring ship status, etc.

ETA: Further, I'm informed by BSG fans in my house that in Helo's case he would be a DIO, because they don't use radar, they use Dradis.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

In modern jet fighters, the backseater in a two seat aircraft is known as the RIO or Radar Intercept Officer. He keeps track of the other airplane/target and works the missile/bomb controls so the pilot can fly the plane. I suspect REO is something along the same lines. RIOs are general folks who can't quite meet the physical criteria for the front seat, so they get trained on the back seat. We had one Lt. who was a RIO strictly for the fact that his leg length for the front seat was too long, but not for the back seat. Really don't want to amputate someone's legs when they have to punch out.

ETA: Ha! X-posty goodness.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I was about to ask about the Dradis/Radar thingie. Kudos to the in-house BSG fans!

It is different. I'm actually not sure where/how to get the On Demand one.

Relatedly, how long is the preview available, online?

I don't know how long - probably a few hours. It's not up anymore, though.

ETA: Cindy, I had a thing I wanted to e you about anyway, so I'll recap the preview for you - insent in a minute.

Art Crawl!!!

The online preview is only up until 2 am. I don't know which time zone 2 am.

The On Demand thing is something you can get via Comcast Digital Cable. Last week's Scifi preview was an expansion of the scene with the pilots divvying up their food. The On Demand preview was the scene in which Kara confronts Cat about her past.

This week's On Demand preview is similarly something COMPLETELY different. (But, given that later in the week scifi started showing previews that were about Cat and her past, I bet that there will be previews that feature part of the On Demand preview that appeared this morning.)

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Was anyone else expecting Kat to turn out to be a Cylon? I don't know why, but I was CONVINCED that the last scene of the episode would be her resurrecting on a Cylon ship and freaking the hell out.

And, aw, I'm gonna miss Kat! I always liked her, and I liked her power struggles with Starbuck, and her big mouth and bratty attitude. I mean, sometimes I wanted to duct-tape her mouth shut, but I thought she was a great character. I'm proud of her that she died saving that ship, though, and I'm glad that she knew that people were proud of her. t /sap

Was anyone else expecting Kat to turn out to be a Cylon?

That thought did occur to me when I saw one of the previews, I think.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I've been trying to remember, and I can't -- has Jane E ever killed off a major character before?

Because thinking back, her name on this ep is a big reason why I was so surprised that Kat didn't miraculously pull through. (I thought she did a great job, but if I were hiring freelance writers for this show, I don't know that I'd immediately go, "Okay, and in this episode Kat dies of radiation poisoning...let's bring in Jane Espenson!")

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

They'd better stop pulling out that "who are the other models?" clip without giving us a new model. Though I now suspect the guy from First Wave, just because he's a face I know, and why waste a former lead character on just another pilot?

Yeah, I know. Not solid deduction.
