I wasn't sure Gaeta was safe because of the show in general. Beforehand, I would have said it was entirely possibly they'd kill him off. It was the episode. I don't know how to explain it. It felt... formulaic, I guess. So much time spent saying, "Hey look, Tigh doesn't like Gaeta! Hey look, Starbuck doesn't like Gaeta! Wow, here's a surprise: they're arguing about whether or not to kill Gaeta!" If they were actually going to do it, they wouldn't have spent 30 minutes building suspense around will-they-or-won't-they.

And Roslin's heartwarming solution...oy. I just wanted to know, is Adama going to make a formal announcement that Gaeta was actually helping the resistance behind the scenes, so that nobody else takes a swing at him? I mean, what's to prevent someone else from deciding to go vigilante?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I figured Gaeta was safe because they weren't going to let the show live with the pain of having killed one of the most important parts of the resistance. There are just some threads of pain that the show seems to cut.

As for the vigilantes--I wonder if the goverment has a hate crime statute or something?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

This was my question as well. We have Tyrol having lunch with the dude, but...uh, does everyone else know he wasn't really a turncoat? That would be...a good thing for people to know. For his sake.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

you're welcome.

Thanks, tiggy. I actually ahemed the episode and will re-watch the beggining later this weekend. But I appreciate the help.

Re: BSG

I was worried they were going to kill Gaeta, too. My fear was they were going to space him, and then Starbuck would make an off-hand comment about him whining to her about dogbowls and the Chief would realize what they'd done. I'm glad they didn't go that way because I like Gaeta and I think it would take the show over the too dark line for me.

As for the vigilantes--I wonder if the goverment has a hate crime statute or something?

But they weren't vigilantes. As they told Kara, what they were doing was authorized by President Zarek. Which is what the showdown between he and Laura was about and why she ultimately chose to go the pardon route when she was sworn in. Because she realized Zarek was right about things turning into a circus and tearing the fleet apart.

This was my question as well. We have Tyrol having lunch with the dude, but...uh, does everyone else know he wasn't really a turncoat? That would be...a good thing for people to know. For his sake.

Yeah, I was also concerned during the scene with him putting the uniform back on that he was going to catch a shiv in the back. I sure hope Adama made a public announcement.

But they weren't vigilantes.

She wasn't referring to The Circle. Strega was wondering about the people who still have it out for Gaeta, not knowing that he was helping the Resistance.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

BSG question, in the beginning of the ep Xena!Cylon talks about 6 votes. Aren't there supposed to be 12 models? I know we've only seen 6 or so, but I thought they referenced 12 total in S1.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

I was very annoyed by Zarek, the political prisoner, legitimizing secret tribunals. 'Cause no, that wouldn't happen. And yeah, the whole damn thing felt false to me.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Yes, twelve models. Which they seem to have lost the plot with completely. Someone up-thread suggested that it was to keep the other models in sleeper mode among the humans; realistically the budget probably couldn't support 6 more recurring characters. Still, though, it's going to have to be a remarkable asspull to explain why we haven't seen the other half of the skinjobs.

(Interesting note: saw Bladerunner the other night, and they use the term skinjob for their human-lookalike robots. [I kept whispering to my friend "Cylon! Cylon! This is where it all started!"] Wonder if the current BSG lifted it from there.)

Corwood, I agree with you about Zarek. I don't think a politcal prisoner, the leader of a ship full of prisoners, would realistically sentence others to death without trial, no matter how heinous the crime. I buy that Zarek is an intelligent and often ruthless man. But since so much of his self-righteous stuff relies on the justice of the system...

Then again, I think I could buy that a man who doesn't believe the system has true justice--given his situation--could be convinced that the justice system needs to be ignored; coupled with the tradgedy and loss of New Caprica, a vengeance could spring from that. But without that being stated explicitly by the show, it's a thin cover at best. After his experiences in the prison system, how can he comdemn people to death after a secret trial? Cylon collaborators or no.

Regarding Kara, as well as the secondary character budget--can I just say that I'm really annoyed that the show broke up Anders and Kara in five seconds flat? I mean, you know it wasn't going to last because Anders was a secondary character. But *still.* If we could have had more than five minutes of screen time of them together, not just the illusion of a year, it would have been far more convincing that Kara would want to rip his face off. What the hell? I get that Kara's pain is Bigger and Worse than everyone else's. But could we get some kind of acknowledgement that he was her husband? The guy she left galactica for? I mean, really. Now they can cut the character and save a couple $$, but com the frak on.

Conservative, n. A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal, who wishes to replace them with others. -Bierce

I've been wondering if the other six Cylon models weren't down with the war in the first place. I realize that until now it was story concerns keeping them invisible, but the six votes thing seems to change the landscape.

It would amuse me to find half the Cylon race hanging out in some nebula, celebrating some grand plan to get rid of all their troublemakers by setting them on the humans.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

The other six five Cylon models, as speculated by Tahmoh Peniket have already been boxed, this is not to say that they can't be unboxed, but they've already been rounded up and turned off.

Again, this is not an official spoiler, but guesswork/theorizing from one of the actors (and I'm not arguing with Tahmoh!)
