Fred: So you don't worry that it's possible for someone to send out a biological or electronic trigger that effectively overrides your own sense of ideals and values and replaces them with an alternative coercive agenda that reduces you to a mindless meat puppet? Shopkeeper: Wow. People used to think that I was paranoid.

I finally, finally caught up with Heroes and BSG. Heroes grows on me more with each ep. I agree with those who are enjoying Nathan, though he's not really likable. Hiro and Ando continue to be my favorites. So fun.

BSG. Damn. There is so much, but I'm just going to say that Tigh (and Ellen) about broke me during her death scene, and Tigh absolutely broke me with his response to Adama, "Not all of them." His expression, the way his voice broke.

Aside from that, there was much wooing and hooing during the rescue scenes. Nice sendoff for Pegasus. Dear god, the gorgeous CGI on this show. I want a vid with all of the pretty space battles. And last, they really know how to get to me with the music cues that call back to earlier seasons/episodes. Crafty bastards.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Looks like I might've been the only one to see the unaired version of the Heroes pilot. Yay me! Mostly, the only thing different about the aired and unaired versions are that certain scenes have been moved around. In the aired version the introduction to Regen!Cheerleader is edited so that there is another scene between her and the nerd filming her falling off the mining equipment, and them reaching the train derailment. In the unaired version they go from the former directly into the latter. However, there is one humongous difference, that involves a deleted portion of that act. In the unaired version the two of them are almost run down by a speeding van. Regen!Cheerleader looks at the van as it speeds away and we see shadowy figures in the back of the van and what looks like the warhead of a nuclear missile. The implication being that the derailment was staged by terrorists so they could steal the warhead and then use it on New York. I don't know the rational for deleting this scene because it adds another layer to the mystery. Presumably, the creators have changed their mind about who and how the nuke detonation occurs. .

eta: Just caught up with episode 5. Love it to death. I'm getting the feeling that Regen!Cheerleader's dad is not part of an evil conspiracy. They obviously let MindReadingCop go without harming him, so I'm thinking the agenda might be something a bit more benevolent. I'm thinking they're tracking down the "heroes" so they can be informed of who they are and what they can do, so possibly they can be utilised to fight evil. Sort of like "Xavier's School for Gifted Children".

Peter Petrelli seems to be a bit of a "Rogue" type character; able to take on the other person's abilities when in close proximity but without the need to touch, or cause damage to them.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think you're reading a lot into his ability to erase memories. Perhaps he's tossing things by date. Or, it's like me going to a store counter and asking for the pink stuffed rabbit--I know that's in there, but getting it back and removing it from the store doesn't have to tell me anything about what else is in there.

So I don't see that he has to be able to read minds. It's possible, just not required.

I adore the bits with Hiro, but felt twitchy and slow with Peter and Isaac until it picked up. Peter bothers me somehow.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I couldn't speak it or understand it spoken very well, and I couldn't have read anything as complicated as my Audi's manual.

Dana was able to figure out the instruction manual of our rental car in Italy, through knowing little more than the Italian and Latin she'd learned from singing...

... we never did find the parking camera, though.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

I'm tenatively hypothesizing telepathic projection of "don't notice me" - cause it is another mental power.

I agree with this. And also, the dampening affect he had on Grunberg's telepathy. Because Grunberg could barely read Claire's dad's mind when he was around, and Claire's dad indicated it was because of MBG. So maybe it's another x-men thing, the kid that deadened other powers, with added mental tricks.

Looks like I might've been the only one to see the unaired version of the Heroes pilot.

No, I saw it in August. And I didn't watch the aired pilot, thus not realizing that they'd cut a couple of things out, which made for some "wha?" issues in 102.

I saw an unaired pilot for Heroes, but i don't remember the van scene you mentioned. of course that was months ago and i watched several pilots at a time. so maybe i've just forgotten it.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

What is even happening?

I think P-C saw an unaired version of the Heroes pilot, too -- maybe at Comic Con. The one he saw had a different ending with Peter.

I think even ordering a mind to forget everything after noon on Oct. 23, 2006 or pink bunnies, or what have you, is still telepathy. It's non-spoken communication. And actual mind reading (which would be a kind of telepathy) on MBG's part, although there's no specific proof for it yet, seems to be the simplest explanation for the ability to selectively erase. It's not the only possible one, but still seems the most likely.

I don't know what I think about possible don't-notice-me type projections. I haven't paid enough attention to those scenes. Claire's dad seems to be everywhere the action is anyhow, so it didn't seem odd to me that MBG could just pop up, since Claire's dad almost just pops up.

Art Crawl!!!

One of my friends has a sister who watches BSG exclusively through itunes.

Her sister just got a message that said that given that BSG is planning to air 3 less episodes than originally planned they were refunding her some money.

3 less episodes? That does not sound good.

Art Crawl!!!

I just re-read my friend's email: it was reduced by five episodes. Five.

From 20 to 15? Does itunes count 2 hour presentations as 1 or 2 episodes? I ask because Comcast On Demand counts the two episode premiere as one episode.
