Fargo was assistant to Warren King but when Warren got moved to Alaska and Stark was brought in, his position changed.
As it was explained to me, Stark didn't really want someone else's assistant - and because of control issues - probably won't have an assistant. It left Fargo in limbo.
So now he's sort of unwanted and needing to prove himself. And Stark toys with the little mouse - sort of like a cat that's been "trained" not to kill small things but wants to anyway.

I've read that a lot of high level exec's will sometimes take their assistants with them from company to company. Stark probably isn't the type to get emotionally attached to people who work for him but I think he wouldn't like to break in a new AA, either.

Did Warren King's transfer get mentioned in the show? The way it's been played, it seems like Stark has been around much longer than King's transfer - was he supposed to already be around in Eureka, and just got promoted?
I'm thinking about this too much.

Yeah, he used to run GD and then got transferred or took a job moving him away....yeah that was it. He got offered a job and chose it over his family. I think that's the backstory for the separation. It all got mentioned but onyl briefly.
Then WK got "relocated" and the powers that be brought Stark back.
