Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Ouch, ita.

Not sure about this next one. I kept editing, and it kind of didn't end up like I thought it would.

He’s sitting in his usual corner, wearing his usual suspenders, his white hair held in its perpetual Bryl-Creamed wave. You give your order to the kid behind the counter – one cheese pie, one pepperoni. You grab a soda from the case and wait at a table, drumming your fingers on the checked tablecloth.

The door opens. Another umbrella in the rack, and a trail of wet footprints to the back corner. The rhythm of their voices carries, but not the words. They leave, the old man shuffling through the wet tracks. The kid comes to the front. Your order’s ready.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

OK, is anyone here capable of not writing a brilliant drabble in this week's theme?

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Dunno. What exactly is the theme?

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

BTW, I have a standing appt on my palm pilot. An alarm that goes off at 10 PM every evening. The idea, when I set it 8 months ago was that it would remind me that I needed to write every day. If I hadn't done it by the time the alarm went off I was supposed to sit my ass down and write for an hour.

To say this commitment was honored more in the breach than the observance is to presume that it happened more than once. I don't recall that it did. But I left the alarm on anyway-to nag me, to shame me, to remind me that I needed to face the blank screen to do what I wanted to do. Still, I was avoidy girl.

Tonight, when the alarm went off, I sat down, and said "100 words".

It took the entire hour to find them. I know some people can write fast, but I am slooooooooooooow like a slow thing.

But I did them. And they're good. Not shit, like I always expect them to be. 100 words, and it ended with the promise of the next hundred.

Thanks, Teppy.

Here's Steph's original challenge for this week.

And I think we're allowed to write three each for each weekly challenge, right?

Good. I get another one. Woot!

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

an island built on the bones of the meteorologically unlucky.

I LOVE that. I don't know what it means, exactly, but it's so evocative. Reminds me of Galveston, or the Barrier Islands.

t raises hand

But catching up here was absolutely wonderful. Such a wonderful read. And I tried to do something (that thing called work) in between each drabble, to clear my mind of the former one and get on with the following one with a clean slate. And, well, to prolong the reading as much as I could. Thanks, everybody. With special thanks for Teppy.

victor, I know I'm too late and you've already sent it, but I just wanted to say that I liked it that there was no explanation behind the not-giving-in-to-temptation - I felt it gave space enough for each reader to insert their own reasons (ethical or otherwise), it made it more general (I'm not sure that's the word I want), to me, at least.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

As of right now, there's no real limit, because the number of people in the LJ community isn't as large as the numbers in the fanfic drabble communities. They have hundreds of members; if everyone posted more than 3, it would be overkill.

In our case, though -- there's no limit for the time being. Just try not to post, say, 50 drabbles.
