You know, I've saved lives. Dozens. Maybe hundreds. I reattached a girl's leg. Her whole leg. She named her hamster after me. I got a hamster. He drops a box of money, he gets a town.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Deena, it occurs to me that I should probably warn you (no spoilers, because the scene and premise get set in the prologue) that the killer in Still Life kills pregnant women. There's absolutely no blood, guts or gore in the book, nothing messy, but that's the scenario. Are you OK with it (crossing fingers)?

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Deb, I am being admitted to the hospital for my back today, so I won't be able to read your novel until I'm home again. But I assume I'll have lots of free time while I recuperate, so I look forward to reading it then.

YAY! on them fixing the damned thing already, Steph. May you be pain-free and ready to go dancing in the immediate future.

Lord, I hope so. I'm a little unclear on what's going to happen when. Yesterday my doctor said that if my pain wasn't any better today, he would admit me for pain management (read: morphine) and call in a neurosurgeon. So I assume that's what will happen -- I'm just not real clear on any kind of time line.

You can raise hell on the timeline if the pain management doesn't work damned quickly, but I expect it will; I'm remembering my brother and older sister, and their disc compression surgeries.

But if they're getting a good neuro in there, he/she may decide to deal with it PDQ.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

Oh, yes, I'll be okay Deb. If there were gore and/or explicit babies instead of implicit, I'd have more trouble.

Whew. It just occurred to me that I ought to let you opt out, if that squicked you. Nope, no gore, nothing like that. It's all bop over head with blunt instrument stuff. No blood at all.

Deb, since you so generously offered, I'm going to forward your email to that college friend of my sister's. She says she's got 75 rejection letters but she's writing paranormal thrillers with romance elements, and isn't that supposed to be the hot new thing? No agent, but she seems enthusiastic and genuinely funny, but stumped on what to do next.

I also offered to read for her as well, since you know I just don't have enough to do with myself these days...

Consuela, if she wants someone else to read for her, I'd be glad to do it too.

Consuela, sounds good. Can you e me her name, so I know who to look for?
