What is even happening?

I don't even think I've had it. It's one of those names stuck in my head. I think I've probably only ever had Smirnoff's and Absolut.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Stolichnaya is pretty swanky, isn't it?

Stoli and Absolut are both swank, but they've been so popular and around so long that they're mentally considered mid-range instead of premium. It's a strange mindset, but I've been watching it happen. It's not like there's much of a price difference, but the differentiation is there.

Personally, I like Skyy.

SKYY has a swanky website, but it's got too much flash, and I couldn't be arsed to look at the actual pages on the actual vodka. It supposedly has the fewest impurities.

Because books.

That Ciroc looks interesting. I've never heard of vodka made from grapes, which I guess is the selling point.

AmyLiz, are you just looking for swanky overall, or can you be more specific?

It's just for a scene in the book I'm working on. The bar is a bit rundown (and in a kind of weary, no-longer-fashionable hotel), and I wanted someone to remark that there wasn't ________. Except then I couldn't think of a hip, trendy vodka, because my brain hurts this afternoon. Any of these will work. It's just a passing comment.

Grey Goose or Belvedere, then. Or Ciroc, if the person in question is hip and trendy. But Grey Goose is popular enough and enough of a staple at most bars that its omission would be odd, especially in a hotel bar.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ciroc, if the person in question is hip and trendy

Whee! Hip and Trendy!

Not that I've had it more than once, but still. I'm 37, have arthritis and am having botox in a couple days. I take whee where I can get it.

Also pouting. I do that too.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Grey Goose. It's the most popular premium in the US.

I was listening to NPR about the premium vodka market some months ago and they said that when Stoli was introduced, people thought paying $9 a bottle for vodka was insane. Now it's just paved the way for $30, $50 bottles.

Aw. You should have much more wheee and much less of the other stuff.

Grey Goose it is, then. Although the Belvedere bottle is very pretty...

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

From juliana's linked article: vodka and Mountain Dew? Say it ain't so.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

In business school in college, we learned that some vodka company produced a more expensive version of their regular vodka - the more expensive stuff then sold better than the regular stuff, despite the fact that they were exactly the same. Yeah, the only difference was a different label and a higher price....

On the flip side, in college I thought that there was really no difference between vodka brands, so I once bought the cheapest vodka I could find, called Something Special From Wisconsin. It was awful. My friends made fun of me for that for years....
