Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

SUCH a hard snort courtesy of Ms. Holt there.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Happy Birthday billytea!

I'm wearing a sweatshirt because I'm cold. In September. Something's not right here.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

Did anyone see Men in Trees ? I watched it, okay part of it, because nothing else was on and it's supposedly set in Alaska. The scenery appears to be Southeast, but then the Alaskan dude tells the main character that she "forgot her mukluks" when she steps into the mud. I know that true realism is too much to ask for, but:

a) Mukluks weren't used in Southeast Alaska b) Mukluks wouldn't be used in rainy, muddy conditions. They're fur boots. Who wants to go around in fur boots in the mud?!

Ackpht!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

From a Salon article, talking about the Dixie Chicks:

They're true, old-fashioned liberals in the sense that they refuse to yield to hopelessness or lazy cynicism.

What is "lazy cynicism"? I happen to think my cynicism is vigorous and active....

Perhaps they mean something more like fatalism?

If nothing we do matters, then what matters is we do nothing.

Wait a sec....

Always Anti-fascist!

Well, if I had to guess what lazy cynicism is...

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I saw a bit of it (post-baseball game, closed-caption) before Martin dragged me out of the restaurant (luckily, they know and love me there). I'm afraid I was a little, um, vocal in my crankiness with a few details. Northern Exposure primed me well.

Yeah. I was trying to be a little bit polite. But not much.
