Marco: Do we look reasonable to you? Mal: Well. Looks can be deceiving. Jayne: Not as deceiving as a low down dirty... deceiver.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Amazing that a doing-good kind of place came up with a better salary. Gates money?

Well, I'm currently working on an environmental health journal (lots of green-karma points, not so much with the big bucks), so better's very much a relative thing. I don't know that Gates is involved. If he isn't, we'll need to look towards changing that.

And thanks, y'all!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ah, got it. Good show!

Laura, of course it's about youyouyou! And why shouldn't it be??

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Tommyrot, that's not humor? I think Colbert has skewed my scale.

Many happy returns of the day, Casper!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Tommyrot, that's not humor? I think Colbert has skewed my scale.

That was my hope, but sadly, no.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm pretty sure the math one is humor. The science one is real.

Oh, dear. Ernesto's projected path is pretty much all over Florida. I hope it disappates over Cuba, too.

The science thing that Tommyrot posted brings to mind Colbert's thing about reality having a strong liberal bias.

Oh yeah. The math one is not listed at the P.I.G. site: [link]

Bah. Maybe I should go back to bed.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Hil, assuming you're right, that's just not playing fair.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh, my, I'm so very sleepy. I even went to bed at a very sensible time. I think. I took a post-bedtime phone call and didn't check the clock.

But sleepy.

The last of the things I had to do yesterday in my overbookedness was have dinner with a couple of students. Nicest couple you could imagine, and they invited me over and prepared a lengthy meal to me. I honestly thought we were done after what turned out to be appetizers. I had to make profound and continual apologies for not finishing everything, but I did taste everything, and it was fascinating.

Mostly Japanese food, all vegetarian. Did you know there was tofu with no soy? We had sesame tofu. Apparently there's even carrot tofu.
