Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm concerned about two things with the slip--that it's...okay, three...that it's totally not tight, b) that it's not too loose for the dress and (3) that it's shorter than the dress. I can't measure the length on me myself, and measuring against the dresses may work, but because of different fits making them hang differently, could be off by an inch or so.

Plus, there's the skin tone issue. Some colours stand out against my skin tone, and some look decently non-obvious. No way to tell from a computer screen.

Okay, so there are a lot of reasons. I just don't like hit and miss when there are no returns.

Old fogeys must be getting their lingerie somewhere, right?

I don't remember whether it was dislocated or what, but when we had the accident in which the car flipped (or something. 1 and a half plus bounce?) it did something to my friends knee and foot. It didn't end up causing enough damage to keep her out of soccer 6 months later, but in the ambulance the knee just looked wrong and her foot was horribly floppy. We later decided that having to hand in a paper with dried blood on it was not nearly as disturbing and the way her leg looked that day.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

ita, depending on the trim of the bottom of the slip, you can always hem it. Even if the bottom is lace, it could be removed, the slip shortened and the lace put back on.

At which point I'll have to go to a seamstress, so I'm thinking I'll just go to a seamstress and ask her where one buys slips. I mean, she should know, right?

ita, how about something like this? [link]

or this-- [link]

There are a bunch at Nordstrom, look for "chemise". Also, look in more old school stores, like saks or Lord and Taylor.

Chemises are too short. I'm looking for a straight up old school full slip. I asked at Nordies, and they told me they didn't carry them.

Give or take a few inches, yeah.

I'm just terribly anal. I want that thing like my mother used to wear when I was little. I figure the seamstress that I'm seeking out (hopefully I'll have the time next weekend) will be able to help me. I had no idea they'd disappeared off the map so cleanly. But the old ladies shop somewhere (that's not Nordstrom or Sears or Ross or Marshall) and I will find them.
