ita, depending on the trim of the bottom of the slip, you can always hem it. Even if the bottom is lace, it could be removed, the slip shortened and the lace put back on.

At which point I'll have to go to a seamstress, so I'm thinking I'll just go to a seamstress and ask her where one buys slips. I mean, she should know, right?
ita, how about something like this? [link]
or this-- [link]
There are a bunch at Nordstrom, look for "chemise". Also, look in more old school stores, like saks or Lord and Taylor.
Chemises are too short. I'm looking for a straight up old school full slip. I asked at Nordies, and they told me they didn't carry them.
ah, I see. did you look at the second link? it looked much more like a traditional slip.

Give or take a few inches, yeah.
I'm just terribly anal. I want that thing like my mother used to wear when I was little. I figure the seamstress that I'm seeking out (hopefully I'll have the time next weekend) will be able to help me. I had no idea they'd disappeared off the map so cleanly. But the old ladies shop somewhere (that's not Nordstrom or Sears or Ross or Marshall) and I will find them.
