The 33rd Degree is through the Scottish Rite and has a long process involved. If you look at this page
You can see there there are even special hats and rings for the 33rd degree.
No wonder I never ran into a 33rd degree.
My stepmother sent me all my father's and grandfather's Masonic stuff (the Bible in code, etc). I actually felt wrong looking at it.
