"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

(for some reason, the spelling of his name looks way wrong to me in caps, but when I looked back it was right, so I now feel safe making this celebratory post).

Emmett Spelling Made Easy: Two of everything. Two "E"s, Two "M"s, Two "T"s.

Thanks, Gris! Both his walkoff, and his game-tying hit were triples as it turns out. Which is even cooler for some reason. We celebrated by going to Foster's Freeze for dinner after camp today.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Thought I'd share a more light-hearted family experience. Tonight's dinner was pav bhaji, and I hung around in the kitchen to see what I could do. The girls were taking care of the vegetables, and the butter needed melting, so I took care of microwaving the butter. It was rock hard, though, so it took a while. Finally, when we couldn't actually get it to smoosh, my aunt said I could just jab the fork into the butter and use some of the melted butter to paint the bread. So I laid the bread out onto a pan and spread the butter on it, and my cousin cooked it on the stove.

Fast forward to the end of dinner, when my aunt says that "the boys" are responsible for cleaning up, doing the dishes, and all that. Now, the reason this is so is that she has a policy that if you do the cooking, you don't have to do the cleaning.

"I don't have to clean!" I said. "I helped cook."

"What?" said the girls.

"I did the butter."

"He's right," said my aunt.

"Doesn't cooking involve a pan...and some heat?" asked my cousin.

"There was a pan!" I said. The pan I put the bread on.

My aunt said that I microwaved the butter.

"And the microwave, that was heat!" I said.

Which is why I am here posting and not downstairs cleaning.

rest well everyone, wake up strong and healthy

Yes, that can be said again.

Yay for nice family dinners. Now ya see why I'm always quick to cook. Doing dishes is my least favorite chore.

off to google pav bhaji - which appears to be named for the spice - plans to sniff some next time I visit an Indian grocery - grateful to live where visiting an Indian grocery is an option

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Morning. The rental place hasn't gotten back to me yet today, so it looks like I am stuck in the house again. I probably wouldn't have gone anywhere anyway(other than the grocery store), but I hate being stuck in.

Wrod. Thessaly and I found a fabulous one a few weeks ago.

Punishingly Intricate

I was glad to hear the better news last night, Beverly. I was thinking about you and your family all day yesterday.

Everybody stay safe and healthy today, okay?

I'm taking tomorrow off to hang out at the quarry with some friends. I haven't spent nearly enough time floating around in water this summer.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Googling seems to indicate that pav bhaji is a spicy mashed vegetable sandwich. Is that right, P-C?

I live right next to what they're starting to call "Little India," and I don't take enough advantage of it.

I thought of PC when I read about the All-Gujarati Hindu Matrimonial Convention that was here last weekend. [ [link] , requires registration]

The convention turns the Indian tradition of arranged marriages partly on its head. It's part speed-dating, but it's also part old-school matrimony —- where "candidates" not only have to list their educational qualifications and hobbies, but their parents' backgrounds.

Thrive to spite them

I don't like August. It's only 8 days in and already been a bad month. Not only are my Buffistas having problems but so are my co workers. Then today I found my glasses on the floor and broken. Evidentally I took them off and laid them on the bed when I was reading and not on my night stand. Then knocked them off the bed and stepped on them when I got up.

One ear piece is snapped off right before the hinge and the other was severely bent. I don't have a back up pair but I managed to manipulate the ear piece that's left so I could wear them. I don't remember how much they cost but I'm hoping I'll go to the store where I got them and I'll be able to buy a replacement pair to put the new lenses in.

Compassionately intolerant

Beverly! Much healing and peace to your family my dear. I'm sorry for the circumstance but glad for the improvement. All the ~ma in the world.

And? You are a GODDESS among women. After, I think, 5 years of searching, you have found the elusive deck I've wanted so badly. I can't believe it! What will I do with myself now that this quest is at end?

Okay, I'll keep looking for "Sinbad and Me" by Kin Platt in something less than a $300 first edition. That's the new (ongoing) quest.

But thank you so much. What a wonderful resource! I've ordered the deck from Amazon.

teehee.
