I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

Spike's Bitches 31: We're Motivated Go-getters.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Is roller derby just another way women are sexualized for men's enjoyment or is it a way for women to empower themselves through sport?

On the early days of the suffrage movement, you could explore how the Civil War slowed or even stopped its progress. The movement was really split at that time between continuing to fight for women's right to vote and abolition.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Hmm - but you could argue that the abolitionist movement advanced women's rights too. Women insisted on speaking and being part of it and ultimately won that right.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Is roller derby just another way women are sexualized for men's enjoyment or is it a way for women to empower themselves through sport?

You could ask that about any women's sport, couldn't you? Depressing thought.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Well, if you discount beach volleyball (okay, and tennis), there's not many women's sports that arouse much male interest at all, so possibly not. [Massive generalization alert]

It would be interesting to look at the WNBA viewership stats, though, since that does seem to have been something of a breakthough sport.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Not shotput, that's for sure. Actually, I think the average female athlete's body is far enough from the typical male ideal that it's not that much of a libidinous draw. I've been told by some shallow guys to stop with the muscle gain, and it's not like I'm focussed on honing my body or anything.

Something like Roller Derby has the women doing something sexy, and the women don't have to be hardbodies of the flatchested sort to do it well/entertainingly. Shot put/lacrosse/triathlon--NSM.

Oh, sorry. I stole all the nap. If it's any consolation I'm ridiculously lightheaded, so it's not like I'm enjoying it.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Hmmpf.

Migraine with no pain. Which is better than the migraine with pain I used to have, but it's left me so exhausted that I've been hungry yet napping for over an hour.

Will eat now.
