Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

I'm getting the pig!

Katie, do you have my cell number? And do you have a cell phone? If so, I don't have the number.

I'll be swapping my dark brown box of haircolor for light brown today. Hoping I won't be stuck standing and staring at all of the different color choices for an hour, like yesterday.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

There are currently two teenage girls in front of my apartment. One has two cups of lemonade in her hands and the other has two cups of iced tea in her hand, and they are stopping each car that passes by and trying to sell them. They have no stand set up as far as I can tell.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Reason eleventy berjillion why I love where I work and live:

Brief excerpt from a note dictated by one of my doctors on a recently admitted infant:

The baby was born to an intact family with two mothers, who have been very involved throughout the baby’s short hospital course.

Two loving parents, a family. So simple.

I need to get on to getting the boy a birthday present, and it's the first one, so it has to be good. I need help, please thankyou. His greatest loves in life, in descending order, are: the Red Sox, comics (especially anything Wolverine or Deadpool), archaeology, maps, travelling, ferrets, t-shirts. I'm pretty sure there's some other stuff, but that's the most gift-able, methinks. SO, any ideas?

I have to admit, the first thing that came to mind was "mummified ferret" but that's no so helpful.

Y'all are where? London-ish? so Sox tickets are out. What's your price range, Jars?

Cereal: 9500 hits on Google for mummified ferret, but looks like no m-fer mummies have ever been found. Dammit.

Oh dear sweet lord, if I could get him a mummified ferret, I think I'd be the greatest girlfriend in creation. And he's going home right before his birthday and his sister is taking him to a Red Sox game.

I figure if its a perfect gift, I'll pay up to a hundred and something pounds. But less than that would also be excellent. I'd buy comics, but he's been on a crazy comics-buying stint lately, so he has everything he wants right now. Maybe a Wolverine or Deadpool figure... but I have no idea what ones are good or crap.

Hrm. Signed copies of comics?

Remember, a bunch of little fun stuff can sometimes be more fun/less freaky to guys than one expensive prezzie.

I found this, too -- I dunno what kind of arch-ist your BF is, but. . . [link]

Heh. I was planning on getting him some archaeology boxers as a little thing, but a t-shirt could work too.

Ferret cookie cutter! Eeeee!

Signed comics is good, but he's so particular. Maybe if I could track down some Todd McFarlane stuff...

Lots of little things is pretty much how I see this going. I know its not a competition, but he got me such cool stuff for my birthday, I dont want to look too crap in comparison.

Good lord. I swear I thought it was later...it's not even 9pm! But I have taken so much cold medication, I am quite loopy (sadly, the loopiness only adds to the symptoms, it does not seem to have done much to *relieve* them. Stupid cold. Or allergies. Or asthma. Or whatever it is that is causing me to hack up a lung).

Anyway. LOoOOOOPY. And sleepy. But it's SO EARLY! I suppose I could try being in to work early tomorrow--I do have an 8AM conference call I'v eonly just remembered. But I told them I'd call in from bed. Heh.

Mostly I just don't want to spend tonight like last night--asleep, but having horrible dreams about being unable to get a glass of water (and then of course, woke up realizing it was because I was all stuffed up and breathing through my mouth. Oy)

But I want to stay awake and watch "So you Think You can DANCE!" Because it is trashy trashy fun, and I love the boys. The girls are not inspiring the love for me, but I love THREE of the five boys.
