[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Buffista Dads.

Brendon is cleaning the garage for Father's Day. I also hear that he is running the lawn mover, which odd since we do have a lawn guy. We have no specific plans other than basketball later. He will probably watch some soccer too. He may have a sore throat after yesterday's game.

We went to a neighbor's house for a party last night. There were about a dozen kids. It was the first neighborhood party since my GF and her 13yo son moved a few blocks away. She was doing ok until the group of kids were playing man hunt and were wandering about the block. GF totally freaked and wouldn't let her son be out of her sight. No way in the world that he was going to be out on the street in the dark.

I had her on the phone with me sobbing last week because the high school that he is attending this summer to shore up his math before being a freshman in the fall basically wouldn't let her in the door. She said she needed to change her address. "Your son can do that m'am." But they told me to bring a utility bill. "Give it to your son m'am." And so forth. She was hysterical on the phone with me.

I'm trying to convince her that kids becoming independent is a good thing. She is terrified of losing him. Is despondent over the notion that he may move out in 4 years. I fear for her when he rebels. He was furious and embarrassed last night. Poor friend. Poor son of friend.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I am the most disorganized person ever, which is making getting everything done very difficult. Note to self: In order for the water to boil, you have to turn the heat on, on the stove.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

He was furious and embarrassed last night.

Yeah. He's got more of my sympathy than she does. I mean, I'm sure she's a loving mom, but letting go is part of the job description.

My mom has not received that memo.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

askye, your weekend sounds wonderful. Good for you for good birthday weekends!

Cass, happy belated birthday!!!!

I went to my 2nd (and last) sewing class yesterday. I finished my skirt and it looks pretty decent. I can actually wear it out in public and everything. I think that when the offer a level 2 class, I'll take it. They're offering one that starts next week, but I have to work next weekend.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

American Romanticism.

Yay! You'll get to read great stuff! My graduate work is in 19th century American. Go check out "The Mirror and the Lamp" by Abrams and read the first four chapters. It will help you sound like an expert from the start. (It's about English Romanticism, but he sets forth the basic concepts of Romanticism really well.)

I forgot how being alone makes me feel so...lonely

I was feeling lonely, all "It's Sunday and I want to see people and do stuff!" but then I had an adorably cute email in my inbox from the Torontonian (what *would* the word be for "person-who-lives-in-Toronto"?), which was contrary to my fears from her previous email (where she was all "sorry I"m all business...seems weird to go into it on email" and I was like "Is that code for "I have a girlfriend"?").

And I did so much laundry yesterday, now I don't want to put any clothes on, because I want to just be all "Look all my clothes are clean!".

and am preparing to do laundry as soon as the laundry room opens.

Your laundry room is only open certain hours?!? That's so not right.

Since my Dad is functionally blind now, JZ had us make a tape for him

Aww, that's really awesome.

Pasta salad is made. Brownies are in the oven. I, however, am still all icky and sweaty, and Dave is going to be home in a half hour.
