Thanks for asking, sj. Luckily, the projected 26 feet didn't come to pass. At 19 1/2 feet, we still had a flooded basement, but it didn't come anywhere near the main level. After the water receded, the fire department was kind enough to drop by and hose the flooded areas out. It was the quickest clean-up ever. The only thing left to do was wait for it to dry.
Things were much worse for folks to the north.

People in Anchorage and Juneau mostly have water. It's those granola hicks in Fairbanks! And, um, the bush. But half might be a (slight) exaggeration.
Okay, possibly. But not by much. Given that one of the houses on my mother's property is lacking running water, and we're less that 5 minutes away from UAF....

You know how, in some English Country House stories, the family doctor is always over for dinner, drinks, taking an evening constitutional with the head of the family? I always sort of thought that was weird.
Well, now that I have my full physical and OB/GYN exams done at the embassy, I can say that it's highly uncomfortable to have someone you randomly see at parties or say hi to in the halls checking out your goolie. Not to mention discussing the depression or the boob implants.

I've gotten into this terrible routine where I wake up at seven, think it's too early to be up so I stay in bed, but can't get back asleep, doze off around eight, then sleep until ten. I think I just need to strap my alarm clock to the side of my head.
