Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Purrs and b-day happies to sj. Harvey is ON. MY. WRISTS. so I can't type more than that.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I just got back from shopping with Mom. I bought a pair of Dr. Marten's black lace up shoes, that were on sale at about half off. They were so comfy, I couldn't resist them. Then the used bookstore that I love was not only open (they're usually closed on Monday's), but everything was on sale half off. So, I bought a Laurel K Hamilton (the first Anita Blake) out of curiosity because I have never read her before, William Gibson's All Tomorrow's Parties , and a very thick biography of Jane Austen. Dave went with Stepdad to the beach and relaxed. Now we're all resting from our day before we go out to dinner. It is so hot here today. Dave got a bit of a burn at the beach.

Sounds very nice, sj. We had a lot of people out of work today (hmm, I wonder why?), so a co-worker and I bought fancy-schmancy pizza (soooo good) and fancy schmancy Mediterranean salad for everyone. It was pretty good, in case you couldn't tell.

That sounds like a great day all-around, sj.

My boss ordered in pizza for those of us here at work today, too. Only, not fancy-schmancy pizza. At least it was free. The Dean gave the staff two hours of "drift", i.e. leave to go home at 3 instead of 5. My cow-irker announced she was taking her drift as of 11:30 a.m. Hatessss her!

Happy Birthday, sj!

Happy Anniversary, Bev and DH!

I bought fun, colorful stripey sheets today, and I lurves them. I told the cashier that I couldn't decide on a color, so I bought them all in one sheet. Then I remembered how annoying customers who try to be funny can be... but she indulged me by laughing.

I also had a tasty lunch with my sister and mother. After lunch, while in Linens-n-Things, my mother looked at my sister and said, "Why are you so red... and what are those bumps?" She had broken out in hives from the shrimp she ate at lunch! Apparently this happens to her from time to time. I've never seen anyone break out in hives before - it was really weird. Anyway, we got her some Benadryl, and she was fine. (I shared that mostly for the "I've never seen anyone break out in hives before - weird," part)

Also, waves. I've missed you guys!

Our wings are not tired.

Hi Jen! How are you feeling?

My mom breaks out in hives when she eats shellfish, but she found this out before I was born so I never got to watch it in person. Actually she found out the first time when she was on her honeymoon with my father. She never had shellfish before then.

Mmmm new sheets. This should happen more often.

Hi, Laura! How are you? I was talking to my friend Dave the other day (the one you met), and he asked how you all were and said to send greetings to you.

I think this developed late in life for my sister, because I know she's eaten shellfish lots. The human body is a strange and mysterious thing.

ETA: And I'm feeling really well, thanks!

The Dean gave the staff two hours of "drift"

Jealous now.

We have our fireworks tonight, since they basically have to be at midnight in order to see them at all. I was invited to a friend's for a party and to watch the fireworks, but getting home would be a pain (couldn't realistically leave until about 2 because of traffic), especially because I plan to walk in the parade tomorrow. However, I am such a slacker that I never made alternative arrangements. I do have nearby friends who give a party each year, and I know that they would be happy for me to crash it, but officially I have no place to go watch fireworks.

Heh. We're often let out early on the day before a holiday or a long weekend. Today, my boss came around at like, 2:30PM, and said "In case you were under the misapprehension that you work for a NICE company or anything, I've been told that we are NOT supposed to be letting people out early, that that's been "phased out"". We were less than pleased. Stupid corporate bosses in another state. The people who work in my location are awesome, even the VP in charge of it. Sadly, headquarters sucks. BOO.
