Back in London, my dad was driving and we passed Lenny Henry on the street. This was when he was all big, and my father asked if we wanted his autograph. We were dead excited, and he turns around, stops, and engages in a long conversation with him, and comes back with the autographs.
We were so convinced he knew him, but no. I still have no idea what they talked about, but it was supremely relaxed and confident.
Unfortunately (or perhaps not--I haven't been bitten by it yet) my standard conversation starter with random celebs tends to be mixing praise with criticism of some sort. The old "I liked your set. But what's your shirt made of? It looks synthetic." sort of thing. Okay, maybe I was only that random once. But it still worked.
The absolute best was when I was trolling the comedy festival for autographs for my cousin. I was going around, completely deadpanning tales of woe, and asking for autographs. I managed to crack up Bobcat Goldthwaite by telling him I needed it for my blind cousin.
Returned Candace Bergen's lost purse when kid.
This is cool.
Happy Birthday, sj!
Happy Anniversary, Bev & DH!
I was at the doctor today and got to view the pathetic spectacle of a doctor trying to run the test equipment because too many support staff took the day off. It wasn't pretty. I-285 was practically empty of cars at what would have been rush hour. Coming back I was slowed by the police motorcade for a police officer's funeral. (He and his partner were chasing a Louisiana murder suspect, who started shooting at them.)
I never recognize celebrities unless someone points them out to me. I flew back from Australia in the first class cabin with Felicia Rashad back in the Cosby show era, but didn't realize it until someone mentioned it as we were leaving the plane. I thought of her as the woman whose toddler turned many crackers into a pile of crumbs several inches deep. I was at a press breakfast with Burt Reynolds and Paul Williams. I've interviewed Tricia Nixon. Atlanta has a fair number of celebrities, but the only ones I ever see (or at least recognize) are Jimmy and Rosalynne Carter and their kids.
(edited because the Crosby show was an entirely different thing)
Happy birthday, sj!
Happy anniversary, Bev & DH!
Anyone here crochet? Here's instructions for a boobie pillow.
Happy Birthday SJ!
My celebrity sightings -- when I was working at the mall The Goo Goo Dolls came to play at the civic center, and while I was having lunch in one of the mall restaurants, in walks 2 band members with dates and sit down. I couldn't remember their names so didn't ask for an autograph.
Bif Naked -- I was going to pick up dinner at my favorite restaurant, Bif Naked was there looking over the menu (the venue for her concert was across the street), while I was waiting I suggested a few menu items.
Klea Scott (of Millennium and Robbery Homicide Divison) was a brides maid in my brother's best friend's wedding, I met her there.
And I met Gabrielle Reece a few times because I went to volleyball games while she was in college.
That's about it.
Happy Birthday, sj!
Happy anniversary, Bev and Mr. Bev!
That's all I got. I dreamt that I was up late playing cards and didn't get enough sleep - it seems to have increased my regularly scheduled gronk.

Happy Birthday, sj!
Happy Anniversary Bev & DH!

I just got back from shopping with Mom. I bought a pair of Dr. Marten's black lace up shoes, that were on sale at about half off. They were so comfy, I couldn't resist them. Then the used bookstore that I love was not only open (they're usually closed on Monday's), but everything was on sale half off. So, I bought a Laurel K Hamilton (the first Anita Blake) out of curiosity because I have never read her before, William Gibson's All Tomorrow's Parties , and a very thick biography of Jane Austen. Dave went with Stepdad to the beach and relaxed. Now we're all resting from our day before we go out to dinner. It is so hot here today. Dave got a bit of a burn at the beach.
