America's Test Kitchen Sangria:
Serves 4
2 large juice oranges , washed; one orange sliced; remaining orange juiced
1 large lemon , washed and sliced
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 bottle inexpensive, fruity, medium-bodied red wine (750 milliliters), chilled
1. Add sliced orange, lemon, and sugar to large pitcher; mash gently with wooden spoon until fruit releases some juice, but is not totally crushed, and sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Stir in orange juice, Triple Sec, and wine; refrigerate for at least 2, and up to 8, hours.
2. Before serving, add 6 to 8 ice cubes and stir briskly to distribute settled fruit and pulp; serve immediately.
There is probably an Al Swearingen Somebody out there, new parents being what they are.
Corwood, if you go on being brilliant like that you can do it wherever you want. So, yes, I'll confine my comments on that particular fucking television experience to movies in the future. Putting out the canned peaches and all.(Whitefonted for putting vulgarity out on the thoroughfares of Natter.) weng mai (crosses fingers) God is is getting me back for bitching about the Chinese in Firefly, I swear.
You put in a url and it shows the site as line art.
I assume I'm not the only one who put in the b.org URL: [link]
You know what would be cool? If we could pass around the Buffista Hive-Palate, sort of like the three Norns do with their single eyeball....
It would probably gag the next time I use lots of cilantro to season something.
Ha! Speaking of, is anyone here an expert on pate de foie gras by mail order? I was thinking about shipping some to Bob's mom as a thank you, but am worried it might not be any good. I found some online but don't know what's acceptable.
"It kind of reminds . . . I could use the Third Reich, the big lie," Inhofe said.
"You say something over and over and over and over again, and people will believe it, and that's their strategy."
Oh, to have been present at that interview and therefore able to shout "Like that whole "Weapons of Mass Destruction' hunt!"
I just got my son's insurance card in the mail, naming him as "Peter Edward ..." Actually his name is "Peter Hawkins ..."
My mother was baptised Leslie John because the priest literally didn't believe anyone would name their daughter Leslie.
On the sangria, I made some really bad made-up sangria on vacation, and by the second it was actually not that bad. So my only advice is, if it doesn't seem like it's working, give it an extra day or so.
Oh, to have been present at that interview and therefore able to shout "Like that whole "Weapons of Mass Destruction' hunt!"
According to a recent poll, half of Americans believe that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Once, when dh and I were dating, I made us dinner, and cut up a bunch of fruit and let it soak in Merlot (this was back before merlot was Merlot) as an appetizer. That's the closest I've come to having Sangria in years and years, but I used to like it in the summer. The kids have been wanting tacos a lot, lately, and I thougth dh and I might enjoy a little Sangria with it.

Jess, have you ever made the Sangria you linked? If so, do you think it could be a go without the Triple Sec?
Cindy, at the restaurant, we use Chianti, brown sugar, apples, oranges, cinnamon sticks, and lemons. We also make white sangria - white wine (I misremember, but not Chardonnay - sweeter), apples, oranges, lemons, limes, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. It is Teh Yum.
juliana, that sounds good. You don't put any brandy, soda, or soda water in it, do you? A lot of recipes I'm seeing online recommend that, but I can't remember having it that way.
Take one 2-liter bottle of 7-Up. Add one can (is it 64 ounces? anyway, one of the big cans) of Hawaiian Punch. Cut up fruit to taste (oranges work well, and so surprisingly do apples), toss in. Chill well.
Fred, that sounds good, too (and good for a kids party). I'd never thought about adding any soda, but it seems quite popular. I know what cans you mean of Hawaiian punch. This gives me a good idea of proportions, if I go the soda route. Thanks.
I made some white sangria not too long ago. I put apple brandy, white rioja wine, apples, pears, and peaches in it. It was Yum.
I love red wine so much, I don't care about white at all, but most of my family loves it. We're having a big party in August, on what would have been my Nana's 100th birthday. I'm going to tell my cousin about this one, and the one juliana mentioned.
White grape juice, orange juice, apple juice, cheapest burgundy I can find, chopped up fruit.
I never thought of adding the juice, Trudy. That sounds like a good idea.
