I went to middle school with a kid named Torkel (I believe he was scandinavian). I embarassed myself when a friend whispered "snorkel Torkel" in my ear during a chorus concert.

That does look like good reading, though...I don't know my father to have ever read a novel in his life.
Typo Boy -- Have you read Sheckley? Parts of that reminded me of his stuff. Not the plot so much; just pieces here and there seem like his kind of humor.
I really like the alien-as-hero idea. And that his fatal mistake is overtipping.
