Here you call (or go online, which do you think I'll do?!) the night before to see if you have to show up the next day. They then do 1 day/1 jury which means if you don't get assigned to a jury that day, that's it, you're done and off the hook for at least another year.
I'm more annoyed that the summons is to the particular courthouse than anything. Traffic getting there sucks, parking sucks, building sucks, and man were the guards cranky and unhelpful last time I was there.

So hey, folks, could I get some adult-life-decisions type advice? Because I'm trying to decide between my father's advice and my mother's, and both have their issues, and I'm not sure I trust my personal preferences in this kind of situation.

I had a long post written but decided to abbreviate a little. I will be moving to the other side of the country in a frighteningly short time. Does it make sense to buy a car here and take it there, or is that a stupid idea and I should fly, ship my stuff, and buy a car once I get there?
What are cost differences? Are there any issues with having to buy tags/license in Mass and then again in Calif? Can you live without a car for a couple of weeks in the new place or do you need one right away?

Also-- how well do you drive/how much do you like driving? I personally, would kill myself before attempting to drive cross country, but if you are comfortable driving in Boston, I am sure you will be fine

Er... I dunno? I'm not even sure how to figure all this out. I suppose in a pinch I could either see about borrowing my brother's or renting one.
