Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

DC is reaching the point where it seems all new construction and renovation/rehabs are aimed at the "luxury" market. There's a special program to help teachers, firefighters, and cops afford to live in town. My building's going condo and, while I could (barely) manage to buy, I'm not going to. They're doing a half-assed job of the renovation, not addressing a lot of serious problems, charging market rates for the condos (1 bedrooms will average $350K), high condo fees (almost $500 per month for a 1 bedroom), and destroying a lot of the historic character of the building. I figure within five years either the condo fees will skyrocket or there'll be a series of special assessments. So now I have to try to find someplace I can afford with a commute that won't either break me financially or take hours. (bitter much?)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So the bruising is all from the buckling and not impact? Because that definitely scores you extra points.

You are elevating and icing and all that jazz, right?

Ann, that's a ferret.

9 of 14 on that quiz.

Not sure whether to be pleased or scared.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

So the bruising is all from the buckling and not impact? Because that definitely scores you extra points.

Yep. I fell in the other direction. I'd be pretty proud of the bruise if I still didn't think I'd done something bad to my ankle. I'll find out on Tuesday, I guess.

You are elevating and icing and all that jazz, right?

I did for the first couple of days. Less so, now. It's hard to keep it elevated above my heart at work.

I got 11 out of 14 ... know your nutcases!

Toddson, on your home situation, we got an ad yesterday for new construction single-family homes on 1/2 acre starting in the $300Ks.

But they're in Culpeper. Which probably doesn't help.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

The quiz got much easier when I realized that Hitler had a vocabulary.

Nope. I live in Adams Morgan (yeah, it's "hot" now). And I don't own a car. I may have to move outside town if I ever want to own ... or get a job that pays real money.

Don't stint! At least have it as high as you can politely. And ice after you use it for a while--like getting home, or stuff like that.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Happy anniversaries, Fred and Hubs and amych and S!

If S exists, that is. Seekrit elopement and all, and never showing up at the F2F's... I actually met Fred's DH at the DC F2F, so I feel pretty safe in offering felicitations and possibly confetti and bubbly, if such is their taste. S is as yet unproven (though at least highly likely and probable, so likely and probable confetti and bubbly to him and amych).
