I hope you don't think that I just come over for the spells and everything. I mean, I really like just talking and hanging out with you and stuff.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I know the people you are talking about Cindy. In fact, once or twice I've tried to point out that equating Dominionism with Christianity is dangerous, becaause it gives the dominionist more power.

There are Dominionists out there, and they scare me, too

Honestly, I wish I heard this from more Christians.

Thrive to spite them

I had some really great teachers at that school. I think what happened is they had a teacher leave right before winter break and then had to scramble to find a replacement and they made a bad choice. The school nurse was fantastic, I could go to her when I had panic attacks. Her husband taught history and he was a great teacher.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

I wasn't familiar with this term, but, having read the entry in Wikipedia, I'm both thankful that we have the term and seriously concerned about the people and trends it describes.

It actually saddens me more than scares me, though.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

Working in a library I have a lot of the same problems _ I know which way I lean - and I have to be careful about how I let it show. One of our regular patron, that I only know because he notices when I get my haircut, had to talk to me the other day. He brought me over to a section of books - in the sociology sec , and showed me what had been shocked to find. Books on the gay lifestyle in sf, or being gay in america, etc, etc, etc. He said he would have never seen them in his highschool library. So I had to carefully explain that we had a much broader clientel than a high school library and that we were a popular materials library, meaning that we bought thing according to the interest of the people in the town. ( biteing my tounge the whole time)

a week later he put in a request for materials reconsideration - for the whole section.

Where the fuck are my thunderstorms?

Why is life so cruel that my office is so cold my hands are blocks of ice and my apartment is probably the temperature of the surface of the sun?

Why doesn't that stupid search utility work like I expected?

Why aren't people actually responding to my requests for help?

Why, when they do, are they answering COMPLETELY DIFFERENT questions than I have posed?

Why can't I decide where to stop and grab something for dinner since I'm betting my apartment is the temperature of the surface of the sun and no way in hell am I cooking?

WHY WHY WHY?!

edit: er, I guess there is a WHERE in there too.

Librarian Warlord

Sparky, I will admit I actively tried to get her fired.

Good. From your description, I wouldn't want her in front of a classroom either.

Nor, JZ, do I hate you for wanting your teacher out of there. I'm not advocating for bad teachers, or wrong ideas. I'm just saying that someone who holds and expresses a belief I think is wrong or not based on fact shouldn't be dismissed solely because of that belief or expression. That's the premise from which I start -- then I'd consider the age of the children involved and the actual content in the classroom, etc.

(Sorry I'm not typing in a timely fashion -- I'm actually on the Reference Desk right now, and taking calls and answering patron questions).

Except for the thunderstorms, I am sarameg. Freeeeeeezing at work.

To be fair, my apartment probably isn't that hot today, but it is some days, and - and this is the key part - it's just as cold at work on those days. I'm shivering with cold air blowing on me. Brrrrrr.
