"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I dunno, Java. Mid to late August would probably work for me, this year anyway.

Not javachik

San Juan is an awesome island - big enough to have a town (that's much bigger than the Orcas few-houses-and-a-ferry town), but I'm a sucker for any island, anywhere.

I'm asking all my RL friends for info they have about ELC, retreat centers, etc. If nothing else, it'll be a nifty list to have.

Digression (not considering them, just interested): anyone ever been to Lummi Island? How'd you like it? How about Salt Spring Island?

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

There is a wonderful B&B on Lummi Island. I haven't been but one of my neighbors is from that area - and a whole group of neighbors went up one summer . and a few have gone back. It gets a thumbs up from Niles

What is even happening?

Boston-istas! I am staying here. I don't know what transportation is like and what the best way of getting to...I think we've settled on Shabu Zen? My course ends at 5, so whenever is convenient to meet up after that works for me.

What and where is this Shabu Zen? How does a suburban housewife get there to meet her dear friend? Is it drive-to-able? I don't want to miss P-C, but I don't want to be riding the rails to obscure parts of town all by myself, at night.

eta...

From the website [link] there seems to be two locations:

Shabu-Zen
80 Brighton Avenue
Allston, MA 02134

Shabu-Zen
16 Tyler Street
Boston, MA 02111

Which one is it?

Speaking of Boston, what's the name of that restaurant that's been around since sometime around the Revolution? They've got long wooden tables, and pretty much classic New England food -- beans, ham, cornbread, potatoes, stuff like that -- and really rude waitresses. I've been there a bunch of times, and can't remember the name, and this discussion of Boston restaurants reminded me of it, and now I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to google that.

Durgin Park. It, or the Union Oyster House would have been much more old Boston for Sunil (and easy to get to for 'fraidy cat woman on her own).
