You can't get much more accessible by plane than Chicago. And St. Louis and Kansas City don't give up much ground to it in the way of railroad access - all three are major hubs.

quick question Chicagoistas -- when traveling on business in chicago, it is worth it to rent a car, or should i plan to taxi/public transport. I will be going to 2-3 places a day, mostly within the city

nothing to do with F2F, potential business trip

I wouldn't unless you're staying out by the airport.

Parking downtown is not something I ever want to do, so unless you have to go out to the suburbs a lot, renting a car probably isn't necessary.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Wholeheartedly second this.

Yes, I did. I was lucky and it was Sunday! No free parking downtown M-Sat. Oh, I wonder if we could get Monopoly Free Parking. Free Parking + Free Money! That would be cool.

Definitely thirding the "you don't need a car if you're staying in the city". If you're driving to the 'burbs (other than flying out of O'Hare), that's a different question--taxis are available out here, but you have to call for them, and as for public transportation, it's a joke.
