So, how was your summer? Mine was fun. Saw some fish. Went mad with hunger. Hallucinated a whole bunch.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Right, sorry. No, wouldn't rent a car.

Parking downtown is not something I ever want to do, so unless you have to go out to the suburbs a lot, renting a car probably isn't necessary.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Wholeheartedly second this.

Yes, I did. I was lucky and it was Sunday! No free parking downtown M-Sat. Oh, I wonder if we could get Monopoly Free Parking. Free Parking + Free Money! That would be cool.

Definitely thirding the "you don't need a car if you're staying in the city". If you're driving to the 'burbs (other than flying out of O'Hare), that's a different question--taxis are available out here, but you have to call for them, and as for public transportation, it's a joke.

cool, thanks guys! I'm trying to get my boss to give me money to travel, so I want to have a budget for him. I don't want to overinflate it, but I don't want to have to come back for money.

If most of your appointments are downtown, I'd just budget cab fares. Cheaper and easier than a rental.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Even if you have appointments in the suburbs you might be better off taking a commuter train. It can be scary driving in Chicago if you're not familiar with traffic patterns.
