At the convention center Marriott. (Unfortunately, this is a work related trip for me, and I'll actually have to go to meetings and talk to people and represent. Blerg!)

Say hi to people for me.

July 21-22
I can do that weekend and probably your birthday, but the other weekend I will be out of town.
Cool, shrift.
My brother is planning on coming and getting me on my birthday around 3:00, so we'll probably get into the city around 5:00, or so. I figured we'd start hanging out for drinks around 5:30 somewhere, then dinner at 6:30 or so. It would be fun to have as many people as possible for that.
Okay. I work in the Loop, so it's pretty easy for me to get most places after work.
Sparky, when the A/C guy has gone, I'll take a look at that location and see exactly where you are. You're near the Quarter, of course, but you probably don't want to walk the length of the Quarter in July heat.
Yeah, I should be able to manage that, vw.
Thanks, Dana! We can always get a cab somewhere if there's something we shouldn't miss.
Okay, according to the hotel, you're close to both Emeril's and Mulate's. I've never been to Emeril's, but Mulate's has good food, and also has a band and dancing.
The Quarter is not *too* far away, though personally, I would not be dying to walk around in the heat and humidity. It looks like the hotel might have a shuttle (if they have any sense, they do). You can get to several of the Brennan family restaurants. The most famous of theirs is Commander's Palace, of course, but that one's uptown.
Mr. B's Bistro is at 201 Royal Street (Royal and Iberville). Palace Cafe is at 605 Canal Street (Canal and Chartres). Bourbon House is at 144 Bourbon (Bourbon and Iberville). All of those are within a few blocks on the side of the Quarter closest to downtown and the Convention Center area.
You're also close to the Aquarium, if you have time for that. I haven't been since the storm, but it was pretty amazing before then.
