In Massachusetts, you can delay jury duty for up to a year without giving a reason. There should be something in your summons about it.

F2F 4: Too Much Candy, Never Enough Mojitos.
Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon: Madison, WI from June 20-22 2008! Official website.
Call and say you're out of town that week? It's worked for me in the past, but I was in uni so that might have counted for more than a vacation would.
Not on the list of legitimate disqualifiers for MA (hell, not having means to get to the court house isn't a legitimate disqualifier unless you're disabled - I got lucky with the locations the last few times this happened when I didn't have a car). I think uni might count as living elsewhere for the right amount of time.
Usually I don't mind this civic duty stuff, but this is the third time I've had to do this (and they tried to get me for a fourth, but I had been within 3 years).

I didn't see that. I'll have to look at the material more closely. Thanks Jon, I was just kind of flabbergasted and hadn't really looked in depth.
Also, I don't know if this might be different because it's the superior court rather than the district one.
I almost missed the first F2F, because I was in the jury pool for the trial of a man accused of traveling across the country and killing someone he met on the Internet.
He pled guilty before the jury selection was finished.
I hope you can get it rescheduled Frank.
Yikes, Tom. I've only been on one jury. Thankfully it was a very funny civil case and not an icky murder case. A friend was on a murder case and she had nightmares for a long time. Only been called twice in 27 years in Florida. They must have a big pool or something.
Call and try to reschedule, Frank. I'd really love to see you there, and I'm generally inclined to go this year.
This is Part 2 of the Jury Pamplet for Massachusetts, see Postpone section [link] -- which basically says what Jon B. said. More resources here [link] .
At this point, it looks like I'll need a ride.
Hm. What time will you be done, do you know? I work in Brentwood, so I could pick up up after work, possibly. Are any of the non-Valley-side LAistas planning to come out?

I have a sneaking suspicion that grumpily informing the attorneys and judge that you'd intended to travel across the country to meet friends from the internet before jury duty intruded might have gotten you disqualified from that case, Tom.

Reading through this thread, we've got you (KristinT), ND, Aimée, and Robin. Anyone I've missed?
Unfortunately I do not know when I'll be done, but I could call you Tuesday afternoon when I've got a better idea of how things are going?
FAQWife just offered to lend me her cell, so I'll be easier to reach. I'll email you the digits.
