I would like to post a new ballot on Wednesday so we can vote again on Thursday.
Before then, discuss dates for every region.
'Same Time, Same Place'
Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon: Madison, WI from June 20-22 2008! Official website.
I would like to post a new ballot on Wednesday so we can vote again on Thursday.
Before then, discuss dates for every region.
So, to cast the widest net, let's put everything from mid-March (say the 17th?) to the end of June, leaving off Easter (April 7th), Mother's Day (May 12), and Memorial Day (May 26th).
That would leave:
3/17
3/24
3/31
4/14
4/21
4/28
5/5
5/19
6/2
6/9
6/16
6/23
6/30
Should any other weekends come off the list? Father's Day?
With that many dates, I'm not sure how useful a "favorite" item for the list would be, but some measure of preference would be useful.
If we're in do over territory, would an "absolutely can't" category be useful?
I assumed that each date would be "check if you can come" with some sort of secondary preference question thing, like there was on the previous ballot.
Jesus Christ y'all, it was a poll. Nothing's been set in stone, and nothing was intended to be.
Seriously, chill. There was a 6 vote difference between the most and least favored weekends -- not exactly a mandate to choose or reject any one of them.
Anyone interested in just doing a poll on whether we should vote city or date first?
Jesus Christ y'all, it was a poll. Nothing's been set in stone, and nothing was intended to be.
This is not my understanding. I thought we were voting to set the date of the F2F.
FWIW, Worldcon site selection is city-location/date -- i.e. each bid committee submits their date or date/range (because they have to secure a certain amount of hotel/convention space well in advance). So an NC bid might be weeks off from a Boston bid, because of weather and hotel availability.
It's a bit like bidding apples and oranges, but you might as well bid for the best apple and the best orange you can put together.
Certainly, with the poll for the dates, we have a better idea of what weekends work much worse than others.
I'm with Victor in appreciating a "can't" version of the date poll if we revote. I think that's more informative than a "can" version, alongside voting for our favorite date.
