Kate P. can't take pictures of our shoes if the plan is shoeless!
It's true! And neither could amyth, who took all the shoe pictures this year.
I definitely plan on pimping Northampton, though I'll have to check and see what the hotels are like. We don't have many big ones right in town, and I don't think it would work if we stayed anywhere else, since part of the charm of Northampton is being able to walk everywhere. I'll have more info when we start talking locations for real.
For the record, I'd be happy to have the F2F later in June. I doubt it will matter much to me either way, but it seems like every year we've lost a bunch of people due to end-of-school-year activities (exams, graduations, etc.), both teachers and students, so I think it's worth considering a later date. Summer is generally when people are taking more vacation time off anyway, right? So it might be easier for people to begin or end a vacation with the F2F and thus be able to spend a little longer there.
I know that June and July is actually so much easier for me. April, May, and the first week or two of June is almost always one of my busiest parts of the year. I've been lucky each year that I've been able to block out the F2F weekend, but it's harder each time. June and especially July are usually pretty quiet for me.
F2F is usually the weekend of my sister's birthday. While it is not a major facto in decideing if I will go , it has alwasy been ( when not on the west coast) , and well, it is J's birthday so that is a good reason to stic around too.
I'm not sure how strong our opinion is. so far,we have only gon e to the west coast F2F . if we go east we have to think about family as well. It is hard to go east without seeing a bunch of them. We'd have to sneak in and out.
amyth, who took all the shoe pictures this year.
Whoops! My bad. It was your
shoes
I was remembering, in particular. As soon as I saw the pic I said, "That's Kate P!" So, that's what stuck in my brain when I associate shoes with pictures. I didn't mean to dis amyth, honestly!
x-post from Beep Me:
Northeastistas...I will be in CT from June 20th-28th. I have pretty intense family obligations but can probably sneak away for a day sometime in that window--probably towards the end of that week. Of course I have forces pulling me in two directions...New York and Boston. What to do! Any way we could meet somewhere in the middle?
We could do a thing at my mom's house in CT (which is right next to the house you're used to coming to but will sadly no longer be mine), or I could travel to one place or the other...suggestions?
Kristin,
On an unrelated note,
Do you still have that discussion site for teachers? Someone I know will be a first-year English teacher next year (I think for 11th and 12th grade) and I'm sure she could use all the advice and support possible.
On a related note,
I hope to see you when you're out here!
MW, I do, though it's not very active. She's welcome to join, though. It's an lj community called teacher_oasis.
Hope to see you too. Really not sure how I'm going to juggle this, though.
So Cal peeps, how far is Huntington Beach from folks? Looks like that is where we will be the second weekend of July.

Huntington is in the OC. Not that far from LA proper.
Kristin, I want to see you for sure! I've got a friend visiting the weekend of the 24th (how does all the free time fill up so fast??), but I'd be available on the 26th and 27th for sure, and probably the evening of the 25th as well. As for halfway between Boston and New York... how about Northampton! (I could travel to Boston to see folks without difficulty, and New York would probably be doable too, but any chance to lure people to my lovely city...)
