Alas, the New Economic Partnership--like, for instance, The Clear Skies Act of 2003, or The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, or Operation Enduring Freedom--is perhaps somewhat at odds with its own title.
Ha! My first reaction to "New Economic Partnership" was that it sounded like the Bush administration named it.
Yeah, doubtful, but it still sits wrong with me to be crossing picket lines, even metaphorically. But I am starting to get confused about what I can and can't let myself watch or buy.
I understand that and certainly appreciate the sentiment. It's amazing to me that people are willing to do stuff like this. I just don't want anyone to feel a sense of obligation to give things up that they like.
Don't get me started on car "ribbon" magnets.
You would perhaps enjoying seeing the number of paint jobs ruined by the combination of the ribbon magnets and Florida sun. I don't know if they have that problem in other areas, but here I often see the damage.

While I very much "support the troops" (whatever that means), those yellow ribbons fill me with rage. Thankfully Joe's back now so I can put that issue away for a bit.
I am looking for a bumper sticker that says "I Proudly Support the Marines But Want Them Home" for when my nephew goes in next month, But I don't think there is one.
I'd love a Pro Life For Soldiers bumpersticker
Kristen, what's up with the Moonlight scab thing? I haven't heard anything about that.
those yellow ribbons fill me with rage
What about the ones that are half yellow, half American flag, and turned on their sides so they look like Jesus fish?
(Laura, I haven't seen the paint job damage you describe -- maybe because nobody has taken the damned things off yet -- but the news fills my dark little heart with schadenfreudtastic joy.)
Strike News, Day 4:
There's a widely circulating rumor that a very famous producer is flying in scab writers from the UK to work on his "bloody" TV hourlong. And that, in gratitude, a certain network gave the show a back 9 order. I heard the producer put out blue pages on the show and told crew that the next entirely new script was forthcoming. Some on the picket line encountered the showrunner who confirmed that non-union people were being hired. I'm trying to confirm so I can name names.
Most people assume she's talking about Joel Silver and
Moonlight.
"I Proudly Support the Marines But Want Them Home"
This is exactly what I needed back then. I just don't get how you could be "supporting troops" and arguing for them to spend more time in greater numbers in a war zone.
