[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Oops. Think he made a tactical error? :)

Duh. Sorry Kristen, I had heard of something similar in other industries, but didn't know that there was something similar with the guild, or even made the connection that there had to be something.

As for the DGA, I think that Robert Rodriguez is another high profile former member. He left the DGA because they ruled that he couldn't share directing credit with Frank Miller for Sin City.

No worries. I only know because the subject has come up frequently this year. It was a big issue during the 1988 strike.

And, yes, Robert Rodriguez also resigned over credit issues.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I think George Lucas resigned from the DGA due to the flap over him not wanting opening credits before Star Wars.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I got prezzies for Tim, Kristen, and Fury.

You know, the connections I made through fandom? Way more awesome than the connections I made through science, entertainment, and law COMBINED.

Talks Day #2 Still Friendly But Unproductive; "Game Of Chicken":

On the other hand, this is a favorite negotiating tactic of AMPTP president Nick Counter: to repeatedly offer little new until the guilds are forced to negotiate against themselves by continually reducing their demands. (Which is one reason why the writers now are toying with a provocative new tactic of raising their demands at every bargaining session.)

You're using the word "fandom" in ways that confuse me again. How is a connection through fandom distinct from a connection through entertainment?

(I'm re-re-rewriting a report, so I'm in the mood for a conversation about semantics, okay?)

Can you hang on while I roll my eyes at you? And then I'll come back and talk semantics.

I would guess that a connection through entertainment is via more official means (like working with someone in a professional capacity) whereas a connection through fandom is, well...fandom. Unofficial and related to being a fan of a show rather than performing a duty. I can see that there could be places where the line is fuzzy (Allyson organizes an event for people on a show she is a fan of, for instance), but I think in theory, the line is distinct. Especially when you're not talking about people actually in the entertainment business.
