I suspect it was Polgara's strong words that had the biggest impact, though. When the inventor of the internet is cheesed off, people pay attention.
OMG- Polgara is Al Gore?!!??
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Shhhhhh! Is secret!
As it sounded like an eminently reasonable solution, when I first heard about it, I refused to believe that such a plan could succeed in this universe, which seems to specialize in the intemperate and unreasonable.
That was pretty much my reaction too.
We so totally should have realized because Polgara is almost an anagram for Al Gore.
Yeah, I know. Who knew she was right? I'd never heard of her before the strike, but apparently she's quite well regarded.
She's also sometimes regarded as a nut, but she's stayed right on this story with the ferocity of a pitbull, so go her.
I like the donut picture, kristen. It made me smile.
You're sweet. But my reaction was, "Geez. I lost 29 pounds. And apparently every single one of them was out of camera range."
I need to say it somewhere: I think the pencil push going through United Hollywood is a PR misstep.
This series of mini-interviews with the strikers cracks me up.
Oh, and in real Minearverse news, guess what I'm buying today? Knitting needles and yarn! I'm finally starting to knit again!
From Kristin's awesome link I found and am now in love with A 5-Year-Old Explains The Writers' Strike.
JZ, that is now my favorite WGA video ever. Especially the ending!
ETA: I really am way too excited about this knitting thing. Check out this really cool knitting shop! It's less than a mile from my house!
