He could have said he was doing it specifically for the Lost franchise and its fans to avoid the implication that other showrunners were putting their staffs out of work. Since he's on the negotiating committee, I imagine he has to be diplomatic. Also given that, I'd give the guy a break.
And the writer-producers are in a particularly sticky situation, because of conflicting contract obligations. I don't know if that's at work here, but I don't envy any of them the choice they have to make.
I don't have the link, but I say it on Lj, where the co creater of Reaper was talking about how the strike is effecting the show. This person's attitude was that the strike could seriously hurt the show and maybe even led to it's end, and as bad as that would be in the larger picture of what the strike is about a single show isn't that important.
Now, I'm heavily paraphrasing that and I'll go look for the link so I may be a bit inaccurate. And I'm sure some of the crew might not agree with that but it was an interesting to see someone say that about their own show.

This is the quote - “I feel in a situation like this, this [strike] is more important than my individual show or my individual career. So I’m OK to make the sacrifice. Everybody else is. And there are people who are making much bigger sacrifices than me.”
Of course Reaper and Lost are in very different situations with Reaper being a new show and Lost having a large following.
Yeah, he's not the only showrunner who has continued producing duties during the strike. It's a sticky situation. In fact,
frightfully
sticky.

Aw, that's sad.

Doesn't Reaper have more to lose than Lost? There's no question that Lost will survive the strike, while Reaper could be mortally wounded by it.
Well, there are all those other people who depend on Lost for a job.
If Cuse is just going in to do post, I don't think his presence (or the lack) affects anyone else's job.
This sums up the debate the showrunners had about whether/how to separate production duties from writing.

In a sense Reaper has more to lose than Lost - but in another sense, because Reaper is on the CW which doesn't have all that much going for it, Reaper may be in a stronger position than it seems at first.
(Although if the CW goes under - none of those shows will be in a happy place.)

I understood that in the case of Lost, if ABC can't get most of a season, the show won't air this year. If the show wouldn't air whether he does post on those shows or not, there's no reason for Cuse to go in. So he must be going in to ensure the entire production won't be shut down for the whole season.

Really? I heard ABC was planning to air eight episodes of the sixteen-episode season regardless, to Lindelof's dismay.

It sounds to me like he's going in to make sure the final product turns out okay.
