The Minearverse 5: Closer to the Earth, Further from the Ax
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
Can you link to the discussions? I would like to hear from the writers (speaking for themselves, not for WGA) as to what they would be most effective.
Love! x-posted with Comedy
Neil Patrick Harris hosted the evening. He came out onstage, started reading from some 3x5 index cards and halfway through the sentence, "Last night I was just thinking..." he stopped and looked really confused. He turned the card over. Checked his pockets. And then shouted into the wings his card was blank and he didn't know what to say next. Out walked a red shirted writer carrying a WGA strike sign and the whole place errupted into applause. Neil Patrick tried to carry on, calling on some dancers to vamp as he tried to come up with some material. I wish I had my camera at the ready. It was priceless. Keep your eyes peeled! Hopefully something will show up on YouTube or Flickr!
Was this from the Ovation awards here in LA the other night? I was there for that.
Or, I should say, I was late, and missed the opening, so I would have missed that bit. But NPH was wonderful and funny. And the dancers were WEIRD. They danced every award over to the presenters, in a very bizarre, skipping step, where their legs never crossed in normal walking fashion.
I liked the whole thing, except for the dancers.

Yes.
NoiseDesign won an Ovation award a few years ago. t is proud
I'm loving the NPH gag; that's awesome. (I assume he was in on it, right?)
Letterman's paying his staff through Christmas. Aw.
Another class act. As much nastiness and pettiness as has been dredged up through this thing, It's nice to see some spots of decency.
I've also really loved Leno's behavior, as he's been extremely supportive of the writers. It's very cute.

Leno refusing to cross the picket line, in the face of how nasty his production company is being, is seriously worthy of respect.

I'd like that too. I was already planning on boycotting the reality shows, but that was more because I don't enjoy them and less self-sacrifice on my part. I know that anything that I do is only symbolic but I would like to know if anything is being organized. The dvd's were something I was thinking about as well. I guess wait and see.
