My cheerleading/support dollars are restricted by my suckass job.
I feel your pain. I still haven't bought the Tim DVD because I'm so annoyed that the Joss one is cheaper. I will, but I have to get over my annoyance. Also, I have to get over my not having money, which is happening much slower than I would like. I love my job, but certainly didn't become a librarian for the money.
WHY DOESN'T SF SEEM TO LAST ON TV?
Personally, I think it's a plot. By the Cylons. Or maybe the vamps. Or little green men from the future.
If it's any help, I'm doing again. Mostly so I have a not-fat one. I went from a 40 pant to a 33 since then. I might do the whole thing shirtless. I'd wait.
Makes note to hire own photographer for the event...
I totally almost made a pass at him last week. He's wicked hot.
I was gonna write a review of his pants for TimMinear.net.
Isn't Stargate one of the longest-running shows on the tube? Not personally a fan, but this fact seems to indicate that SF elements are not THE limiting factor for series duration.
Isn't Stargate one of the longest-running shows on the tube?
It is the longest-running sci-fi series on AMERICAN television.
Ultimately, Stargate is a niche show. It has a niche network, which is happy to support it.
Sci-fi on networks like FOX and ABC is always going to struggle, as it would need to break out of the niche appeal to survive. You've got to be very lucky, and have a really solid show.
but there are SF fans who don't think Battlestar Galactica is SF.
While I am fully supportive of the Because They Are Batshit Crazy explanation, they do have David "Just Because I Produce A Show Called Battlestar Galactica Doesn't Mean I Have To Like SciFi" Eick on their side, which I suppose counts for something.
And I think scifi shows on the SciFi channel do not qualify for this kind of ranking, because the whole "being on the SciFi channel" means they are competing for a vastly reduced market share ('cause, cable), and also not so much competing with shows of other genres on the network.
My sister hates SF, and loves BSG. Cracks me up.
I think Vandalisimo had a similar response. (ETA: To Galactica, I mean. I don't know if she's as amused by your sister as you are.)
4. The obvious one - the marketing. It's little harder to market something which has a narrower target audience than, say, a comedy.
That's #2. I don't think SF actually has a narrower target audience. Unless you've decided that your potential audience consists only of self-described SF fans. See above, but cop shows are not marketed just to "cop show fans."
Ohh. Tag?
Batshit crazy? Or "they're batshit crazy"? I mean, either way, sure. I'm just unsure what's tagworthy.
Mostly so I have a not-fat one.
Er...'kay. You did seem to be wearing a much larger person's clothes, but it's Allyson's fault for mentioning that or I wouldn't have noticed. You did not appear to be unduly hulking.
...being on the SciFi channel means they are competing for a vastly reduced market share ('cause, cable)...
Hmm. Is there anyone in this thread who receives TV over the airwaves? Not the sateliite airwaves ... the local airwaves.
