'Out Of Gas'

The Minearverse 5: Closer to the Earth, Further from the Ax

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I pasted the editing link instead of the actual link.

I'm out of practice.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Now you've got me imagining Riley Smith in mid-argument, turning to the passenger seat, and instead of his wife Skip is sitting there giving a little wave and saying "Howyadoin'?"

Hee! Then he'll start in on how everybody's actions in the race are predetermined in order to serve some higher being's purpose. They just think they have choices, but they're really just pawns in someone else's game. Then Gina Torres emerges from underneath the hood of a car and everyone breaks out into joyous song.

Huh. The more I think about it, the more plausible it seems. There's probably some of that at work here. TPTB = Secret Cabal, no one really knows why they've been chosen, and all of these random people who don't seem to be involved at first blush but actually provide some guidance are like the Oracles.

Now I'm wondering if there's a supernatural element involved, or if it's just the human desire to screw with people. I'm hoping it's the latter because I think a story based on how cruel (or kind) people can be to each other (without relying on "outside" interference) is more difficult to tell well.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Has anybody speculated what the movie is they're about to see? I just checked the universal film leader at the beginning, it includes the letters "PICTURE OMPAN SERIES" (I presume "OMPAN" is a cut off word). I can't find that on any stock film leader footage I can find, so either it's spliced in, or it's just stock garbage. The leader likely dates back to about the 60s or 70s, though.
