Lorne: Back in Pylea they used to call me "sweet potato." Connor: Really. Lorne: Yeah, well, the exact translation was "fragrant tuber" but…

The Minearverse 5: Closer to the Earth, Further from the Ax

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Now you've got me imagining Riley Smith in mid-argument, turning to the passenger seat, and instead of his wife Skip is sitting there giving a little wave and saying "Howyadoin'?"

Hee! Then he'll start in on how everybody's actions in the race are predetermined in order to serve some higher being's purpose. They just think they have choices, but they're really just pawns in someone else's game. Then Gina Torres emerges from underneath the hood of a car and everyone breaks out into joyous song.

Huh. The more I think about it, the more plausible it seems. There's probably some of that at work here. TPTB = Secret Cabal, no one really knows why they've been chosen, and all of these random people who don't seem to be involved at first blush but actually provide some guidance are like the Oracles.

Now I'm wondering if there's a supernatural element involved, or if it's just the human desire to screw with people. I'm hoping it's the latter because I think a story based on how cruel (or kind) people can be to each other (without relying on "outside" interference) is more difficult to tell well.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Has anybody speculated what the movie is they're about to see? I just checked the universal film leader at the beginning, it includes the letters "PICTURE OMPAN SERIES" (I presume "OMPAN" is a cut off word). I can't find that on any stock film leader footage I can find, so either it's spliced in, or it's just stock garbage. The leader likely dates back to about the 60s or 70s, though.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Oh. It didn't really occur to me it was going to be a real movie.

It might be a Lost style 'hatch' video, I suppose. Although I'm not sure what the point would be. I presume it relates to the next check point, as it's where the episode is gonna start I'd guess.

Another social casualty...

Just checking in briefly to thank Cindy! The Secret Mountains of Florida just made me laugh and laugh. You made me remember the cardnial rule of TV: Just go with it. Thank you for the much needed kick in the head.

In other news, I had a thought. The secret random "helpers" along the race route: They're really wax lions, brass monkelys, etc. See, Season 3 of Wonderfalls was going to feature Jaye being coerced into joining a secret, illegal cross-country road race....

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I read OMPAN as Company-- I didn't even notice the letters were cut off. And I assumed there would be a film detailing the next stop, or something.

No kick, just silliness. Hey, I nearly lost it during S7's BtVS: "Get It Done." That's the episode where Buffy jumped through a portal of some sort and saw how the proto-watchers imbued the first slayer with slayer power. The reason? They had her chained in metal chains, and it drove me crazy and I don't even know why.
