Gunn: The final score can't be rigged. I don't care how many players you grease, that last shot always comes up a question mark. But here's the thing. You never know when you're taking it. It could be when you're duking it out with the Legion of Doom, or just crossing the street deciding where to have brunch. So you just treat it like it was up to you—the world in balance—'cause you never know when it is.

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I half expect Drive to have an opening statement ala The A-Team, with a serious-voiced man stating something like:

"Some are drawn by the money, some are in it for fun. One is trying to find someone he lost, but all are here to... Drive!"

t Cue A-Team theme

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Since it isn't a cult show, I have no idea what you're arguing.

The net matters very little. Like, it's a smudge. It's getting advertised on NASCAR, for fuck's sake.

Back off on the handwringing, Chicken Little. You're coming at this solely from your experience with cult television from an internet standpoint. You're seeing things from the perspective of someone outside the states, who isn't soaking in the promotion.

It's either going to be a smash hit, or it won't. And its success will have nothing to do with livejournal.

Trust my rage

I have no horse in this race, but that comes across as pretty harsh.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I'm with Stephanie. I was trying to figure out what to say.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Huh - I was thinking exactly what Allyson just posted. Online fandom is a tiny sliver of television viewers when a show is successful.

Well, most of what I was objecting to was the overall tone, I think. And this

Back off on the handwringing, Chicken Little.

Like I said, the whole post just seemed a little harsh. I'm not disputing that she's not right. I don't live in the (mainland) US either so I suppose I can't really judge for myself.

I'm irritated by the tone that there's something to worry about. This is the first time Tim's done a show where there's an assload of publicity, and the full support of the network and studio, because they love it.

What's harsh is the handwringing, itself, not calling it out as foolish.

Also, please don't confuse blunt for harsh. Bluntly, if you're not stateside, trying to gage the american public's interest in a television show by whether there's a net buzz is in fact an exercise in handwringing. If anything, my post to Kevin is a just a Doblerization, and needed to be said.

I feel like I should say something, but I really don't have anything else to say. Plus I'm leaving work in 10 minutes. So, the entire purpose of this post is to basically say nothing. Oh, Drive...should be a cool show. Can't wait...
