In my experience, more often than not, the promos aren't even cut by the networks themselves, but by post-production and promo companies that they hire out of house to do the launch. At least at first.
The Minearverse 5: Closer to the Earth, Further from the Ax
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
I gotta be honest, I don't like where this is going. I totally understand the potential to take any criticism of the show personally, as some people know the writers, etc. personally. I am worried that people will not feel comfortable expressing their true opinons.
I don't think it was when people first started commenting on the promos.
The first thing that Allyson said in response to Juliebird not being sold by the promo was that it was representative of the series. I am not trying to say that criticising the promos is off limit iff the writers post here--just that the promos can't be "blamed" on people other than the writers, possibly including those posting here.
I must say, that's another good sign in that either the network likes the show enough to have the TV's hit DRIVE folks do the promos, or they liked the promos enough to go ahead and use them. Also, this could be a REALLY good thing if the show does gangbusters (that is, if the show runners are doing promos that sell a show, let the show runners oversee the promos).
I assumed you meant that the dialogue was written by Drive staff, as it would be for scenes in any other promo
My understanding (and people in the know, rush in and blast me away, if needed) is that the promos weren't cut from episodes, so much as written as promos.
Either way, apparently the first one was representative. The idea of shifting responsibility for something imperfect off posters here or just plain writing staff (who we tend to be fonder of than editors, network people, etc even if we don't know them) is what I'm barking at. They're not imperfect yet. Disliked, not gripping, but in line with the series premise.

I'm still confused here, to be honest. Just because Allyson says a promo is representative of the series doesn't mean that Tim and Kristen made it. Of course promos can be blamed on people other than the writers; just because you give them good material to work with doesn't mean that the promo will be good. Veronica Mars fans know this well. Until you said that Tim and Kristen made the promo (which I'm still not sure is what you actually meant?), there was no reason to think that.

It looked like it was cut from episodes to me.

I understand what you're saying. I think the comfort level is up to the people, too, though.
Since I was referenced:
For the record, I get that people might not like the show, don't love the promos, don't get the idea, etc. Heck, I may not like the show once I finally see it.
I've said what I've said simply because I find it odd that rather than squeeing over Riley in fatigues, Brian's icy gaze or Nathan being all glowery, more often I'm running across what amounts to a death knell for a show that hasn't even finished producing its first episode. Some may read that as being defensive in light of my connection to Kristen and the fact that I've taken over Tim's site, but really, frankly, I just think such talk is premature, at best.
Does that mean people can't say it? Not at all. Fox has peed in enough people's Cheerios that I understand the apprehension. I'm not Thread Dictator, say what you want. After all, I do.

This.

Hence my asking was it representative in style, content or both.

Yeah. I feel this, too. As if Tim + Great Show + Fox = early cancellation. I'd rather read discussion on the work (hell, even the promo criticism doesn't bother me since it's just a promo), rather than see people assuming Fox execs are just yanking our chains again just when we get attached to another tv show.
