We should help Tim out by selecting the appropriate theme song. It should be something like how Bruckheimer uses The Who. You know, in case there's a franchise, like Drive: Europe. Or Drive: Catalina, where all the cars are those teeny golf carts.
Ah. Deja Vu.
Anyway: A Berklee faculty member lists his 50 favorite songs for the highway.
Personally I like:
"Drive" REM
How about that big '05 hit (that's 1905), In My Merry Oldsmobile, the first song ever about a car. Or maybe Robert Johnson's Terraplane Blues - the first song to use a car as a sexual metaphor (or so I've read).
Free Love Freeway -- think of the crossover opportunities!
Technically, that's also a Springsteen song.
ETA: Pink Cadillac being also a Sprinsteen song. (Though not the same Pink Cadillac.) Possibly to be used for Drive: Julie Newmar Edition.
I was a bit confused about it at first too, Kristen, then discovered the differentness. I loved the video for Aretha's. But then, I kinda love Aretha.
Based on absolutely nothing, I think a bluesy-sounding theme would fit well. Something like Dr. Feelgood's version of "On The Road Again" would be a cool theme song.
Ooh, and then "B Movie Box Car Blues" for the train-centered spinoff! And "Deep Blue Sea" for the yachting version.
"Space Oddity" or "Rocket Man" for the space version.
Drive.... In.... Spaaaaaccceee
"Dig Myself a Hole" for the radio-friendly spelunking spin-off.
"Hot Rod Lincoln" for the prequel which takes place in the '50s.
