At the F2F I leaned back at one point and found a nice comfy human back to lean against (this was before becoming comfortably numb). As I relaxed, my brain played through the people I knew to be behind me - Pete chief among them. It was then that I realize who I was leaning on and I think I jumped a mile. Not quite a looming, but startling nonetheless.
Fernet is pronounced with the "net" part English style like a basketball net. Just exactly as it is spelled with none of this "fernayy" business
Mmmmm, Fernet. Also, "Fernet" is in and of itself non-alcoholic. The family distributes the herbal tonic to various distilleries, who then add Teh Booze. Hence, here you can find Fernet-Branca (which is what I had people drinking), and Fernet-Stock, which is Fernet blended with an orange liqueur, and on. Fernet in Europe is orders of magnitude more potent than U.S. Fernet, partially due to the opiates being allowed to stay in.
