There was a quote from a dumbass college student in this morning's paper ("I just don't believe in the right to privacy in this country," in context meaning he doesn't consider it a defensible right.) I wish I was evil enough to call him up and scream Ben Franklinisms at him.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Jon Stewart had one of the more prominent neo-con thinktankers last night who was very down on Bush and what he's done.
sarameg -- what would be really evil is to break into his house and leave a note for him.
I was surprised to find out that investigations of possible terrorists can involve "sneak and peek" warrants, where they search your house while you're out and never tell you about it -- until, possibly, you're arrested.
I mean, seriously -- they don't even leave a note. So if they don't find anything to charge you with, you might think you've been burglarized by a particularly stupid burglar who just moved your stuff around a little and went through your drawers and files.
I'm kinda surprised that most Americans approve of the government examining their phone records.
Americans by nearly a 2-1 ratio call the surveillance of telephone records an acceptable way for the federal government to investigate possible terrorist threats, expressing broad unconcern even if their own calling patterns are scrutinized.
Sure... but they mostly called people they knew would like it.

What happens when you report it to the police? Do they know to not investigate?
I forgot all about Survivor until 8:57, so yay for the recaps here. I don't think Terry's necessarily dumb at the social aspects of the game. I thought it was fascinating that he voted for Aras last week at TC -- there was no hint that he expected Aras to get booted. So was he just making sure that his vote wouldn't matter? Or is he thinking that, if he's one of the final 2, he's going to be able to say that he didn't vote out a single member of the jury? If we have the usual level of pettiness, that might make a big difference.
I love that the finale is always on Mother's Day, since my mom watches the show, too. Especially since my brother & his family don't watch it, and they keep hosting dinner on Mother's Day. They're slow learners. But I consider it payback for the time he forced me to sit through the extended edition of The Two Towers.
I am waiting for FedEx to deliver my desk chair. Since they've tried twice, and I only found out because my mom called to say that FedEx had left a message for me.
The driver, apparently, is so new that he can't quite figure out how to deliver something even though my name isn't out on the front gate yet. He's also so new that he didn't think to mention it on Wednesday when he first tried.
Joy. I may miss a wedding because of this. Well, there's always the reception...
I convinced myself that the Survivor promos had to be old footage, because could they really be that stupid to end on a cliffhanger and then reveal the winner? Maybe they could.
Can I go home now?
First call I got this morning was from the company owner's secretary saying he needs wireless internet access in the board room by Wednesday. We don't have wireless networking anywhere in the building and the internet access requires a firewall login and password. I spoke to my supervisor and he said we'll have to figure something out.
Then I got a call from someone at our Philly hospital trying to schedule non-Oncology patients who followed their doctor from a different local hospital and finding out she can't because they're not in the system. I spent 45 minutes on the phone calling person after person before I finally found out someone who could tell me the procedure for scheduling new non-Oncology patients. Argh.
I've had more stressful days, but it hasn't been a fun morning.
Well, some of the victims of the sneak'n peek warrants have been Arab-Americans, so you can imagine how sympathetic some police departments have been....
