I'm going to a senior recital tomorrow for a girl who sings in the symphony chorus with me. She's a harpist, and she's going off to college in Toronto. I'd sort of like to get her a little gift, and I'm trying to remember what was useful when I went off to college.

I take these, too. For non-baby-making reasons.

Goodness, I take (counts on fingers) 19 pills per day. Yikes. Most of those are vitamins, but still.

Beer. I found that very useful.

Toaster oven. (way better than a microwave- toasted cheese and bagels) Small electric kettle for heating water.

Dana, something like this, with maybe a couple of cups of instant noodles or soup or oatmeal or just some cocoa or instant coffee.

I really miss my weighing scales for baking. And I had to give in and buy a blender. Useful for cooking AND for cocktail parties.

Also, appears to be an escaped con in your neighborhood, Tommyrot and aurelia. Don't answer that dooe!

Dana, how much do you want to spend? Ideas: phone cards, video rental cards, movie theater gift certificates, rolls of quarters (for laundry!), small microwave for dorm room, shower caddy with flip flops, whiteboard/markers for dorm room door.

Damn, people. I mean, thanks for the reminder to refill my prescription for the one teeny pill I take each day, but jeez.

Be careful about the toaster oven. I know the dorms I worked in didn't allow them. Too much of a fire hazard.
