Reavers ain't men. Or they forgot how to be. Now they're just nothing. They got out to the edge of the galaxy, to that place of nothing, and that's what they became.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Kelly Link sweeps the Nebulas

The 2005 Nebula Awards have been announced and several of my favorites were winners -- including two knockout Kelly Link stories from her collection Magic for Beginners --

Novel: Camouflage, by Joe Haldeman, (Analog, March-May 2004, also Ace book Aug. 2004)

Novella: "Magic for Beginners", by Kelly Link, (Magic for Beginners, Small Beer Press, July 2005; also in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Sept. 2005)

Novelette: "The Faery Handbag", by Kelly Link: (The Faery Reel: Tales From the Twilight Realm, Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, Eds., Viking Press, Aug. 2004)

Short Story: "I Live With You", by Carol Emshwiller, (The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, March 2005)

Script: Serenity, by Joss Whedon, (Universal Pictures, Sept. 2005) Serenity: The Official Visual Companion (Paperback, including shooting script)

Andre Norton Award: Valiant: A Modern Tale of Faerie, by Holly Black, (Simon & Schuster, June 2005)

Yay Joss!

I also have to add that both those Kelly Link stories are amazing - especially "Magic for Beginners," which is about a group of very devoted fans of a Buffy-esque TV show. You can find links to "Magic for Beginners" online at the above link

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yay!!

In other news, am I crazy for thinking it's a little weird that the ad campaign for The Color Purple on Broadway is all, "It's just so happy! Fun! Love it!"?

In other TV news, I love Shemar Moore SO MUCH on Ellen right now.

"The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be."

Good gravy with cracklin's! Congratulations David & JZ!

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Holy carp! A Zmayhemette! Good news this Monday!

Hey, Tom! Somewhat less of a mess, but still in dire need of unpacking, rearranging, and cleaning. My bed and desk should be delivered on Wednesday, which will be nice.

Oh, and I bought a TiVo.
