Makes me imagine, 100 years from now, a child picking up the odd piece of plastic with buttons on it off the shelf and asking "What's this?"
"That's your great grandmother's VCR remote. Back in the olden days you couldn't get the programs beemed directly into your brain. You had to watch them on this big box and they only came on at a specific time, so sometimes you had to use another box to record them so you could watch them later, using a remote like that one. That remote was used to record every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's very special."

He is. He's the comic relief, and probably the best thing about the show. They do a whole bunch of buddy dynamic, and I get to wondering "What is Ari doing?", then they have him show up and be an ass, and things get better.
